QUOTE (James_Trinder @ Apr 4 2019, 01:26 PM) I think that one argument is that the public will lose faith in democracy and there will be rioting in the streets etc. I don't really buy it myself because people often vote for political parties on the basis of what is in their manifesto and often these promises are either broken, watered down or delayed. Granted, this is a bit more high profile than most of those promises and the vote for it was a bit more direct than usual but most people are fairly used to being lied to and generally let down by politicians. I couldn't agree more. Project fear at work...

That worked out just as the experts predicted....project fear my a$$. They got that wrong. I don’t think it was a deliberate lie. I must admit I thought all these things would happen with all the uncertainty and I assumed the markets would immediately “price in” the impact. However the markets and businesses behaved sensibly. I have absolutely no doubt that no deal would wreck our economy and I base that on observable reality (people panic buying, housing market behaviour etc.) and more importantly the view of 99% of economists and experts.

QUOTE (Strafin @ Apr 4 2019, 11:39 AM) I haven't been particularly specific so if you feel that it applies to you then that's your issue. If you can't prove something or at least point us in the direction of where the information is, then why would anyone believe you? It's as good as the old "a bloke down the pub told me" opener to all sorts of nonsense and urban myths that we don't have anymore. If you'd actually bothered to read the post you would see you were pointed to the evidence'. I'd have to argue that the vast amount of information we have today, much masquerading as data, generates rather more urban mythology than we've ever had - which is ironic, given 'the bloke in the pub' along with the house, is fast disappearing. It's also quite interesting that some see this Irish border issue is the root cause of our Brexit problem. Rather odd that Mrs May is making no overtures to the Irish government let alone making specific mention in her recent discussions.

Dear God. Newres was wrong? Why do you believe the "experts" this time? Because they tell you? Think about it... the one time the British people ignored these charlatans what actually happened??? Cry wolf...

I said people should stop citing things as facts if they're not, and if they're questionable backing up. You went off on one, and said that you shouldn't have to... I replied and said it wasnt specifically aimed at anyone.. and now it's all a bit untangible. You did say the Irish border was clearly not an issue though. When it's the main reason Brexit has been suspended...

If the Irish border was one of the main issues, we'd be out already; it's not. Sure, some fringe commentators with other agendas imagine it is, but it isn't. That's why Mrs May isn't in Dublin right now. I've already told you where you can see even with no deal, even the EU don't consider the Irish issue a significant problem. And actually I was 'already on one' simply because another poster had was posting obtuse and what I considered unnecessarily offensive responses - so your apparently non specific response simply added. Never mind, having spent most of last week at our European HO with our markets and trading people, although we have considerable business with and in both Eire and Northern Ireland - we don't see any issues that won't be quickly overcome; Brexit, deal or not. So, I'm all right Jack and happily leave you to find your own way through.

Idiots stopped it. I won't be voting again (apart from taking my time writing my thoughts down... may take 10 or 15 mins... if all brexiteers do this we can invalidate the next election...of any sort...imagine the queues...)...🤣🤣🤣🤣

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Apr 6 2019, 02:45 PM) Please support this statement of fact with some evidence please. The evidence is that the DUP won’t back the deal because of the backstop at the border. Remove Ireland from the equation and there’s no need of a backstop. It is the sole reason the WA won’t pass because the EU requires alignment in return for an open border.
