QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Sep 20 2018, 10:11 PM) I don’t mind the bus; they are often punctual, have a sensible timetable and usually get a seat. The Jetblack into reading is very good, or at least it was, only use it occasionally if I'm going in to see someone and its not worth the hassle of driving in.

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Sep 20 2018, 10:34 PM) The Jetblack into reading is very good, or at least it was, only use it occasionally if I'm going in to see someone and its not worth the hassle of driving in. I have occasionally taken the bus sometimes just for a bit of casual sightseeing The bus replacement tends to leave at times that feel intuitive, as were the trains until the new timetable. However, this week every train has been technically late; I’ve never known it this bad without extreme weather.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Sep 25 2018, 09:03 PM) Despite being one of those new trains it is still 30 minutes late leaving Reading and these new fast trains are seriously uncomfortable; a pile of shoite. No back support and hard as wood. Nice acceleration though. Saw Ian Hislop on the train yesterday and he got off at Newbury. Watermill I think on Thursday.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Sep 26 2018, 05:32 AM) Doesn’t accelerate that fast when it is stacked behind orher services. Can sympathise with your predicament. The trouble is electrification won't cure all the problems that cause the delays so it's not going to get any better. Might be worth looking at other transport. My partner still finds her car much better. Even when delayed at least you are in a comfortable environment.

However, the seats are seriously uncomfortable for me; there’s no way I could endure long distance in one.

It's concerning about the seats; the trains and the upgrades have cost a huge amount and if they can't get the basics right, the money is wasted. Looks as if the railway people don't think customer.

The new trains were specified and procured by the government (DFT). Link

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Sep 27 2018, 07:53 AM) I’m not even 6 feet tall yet the shape of the back rest is wrong for me and it forces me to bow my back, it is horrendous. I doubt I could sit in one from Newbury to London. An earlier post says the seats were specified by the Transport Department. What you've found shows that they aren't fit for purpose and the Train Companies should have at least been campaigning to get them changed. That's the whole trouble with the set up, no one will take responsibility and everyone is just on the make.

Much of the coverings and construction of modern train seats are specified by our friends the EU due to the latest fire and safety regulations set by them!

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Sep 28 2018, 08:26 PM) The latest seat is a deal breaker; I can’t use them. The seats are fine for me. They are designed to improve posture. Also the air con is better and I understand the wi fi is considerably improved. Oh and the track will soon be fully electrified which is both green and a lot less noisy. I agree that the lack of drivers and delays are inconvenient to say the least but you do have to point out where improvements are being made.

I agree that the lack of drivers and delays are inconvenient to say the least but you do have to point out where improvements are being made. Customer service hasn't improved and electrification won't cure that air con and wi-fi aren't going to help when basic service isn't being delivered.
