No, academies and free school are still 'state schools'. Certainly in West Berks, the majority of secondary schools are academies.

Are there any that actually employ unqualified teachers (save PE!); if so I might believe it? However I think you'll find the teaching unions will have put paid to that.

What's the definition of a qualified teacher? One that has a Dip Ed - or just a degree in the subject they're teaching?

(That's obviously secondary schools - primary schools need some sort of generalised teacher training.)

Well there was this head teacher in Pimlico: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24466928

And the Dept of Education even has pay scales for them: http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teach...cher-pay-ranges

But, of course, the unions are objecting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-21988209

According to the DoE site, to teach in a state school, you need to have a degree.

http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teach...rs-degrees.aspx

You also need to achieve Qualified Teacher Status.

The Fire Brigades Union has announced two new national strike dates -
Friday December 13 and Saturday December 14.

Members of the FBU will be on strike between 18:00 and 22:00 hrs on both dates.

Whilst I don't support the firefighters, I do respect that generally if there is an emergency they do turn out even if on strike.

Which begs the question that it is a strange strike, if you decide to not work and be paid unless it's busy!

I'd like to think you mean you do support them, just not their strike action.

It is not if they are busy, it is if there is an emergency. FF spend quite a lot of time doing not much, it is this effort they are withholding! wink.gif

Yes, I've never really got my head round the "correct" meaning of the term.

Yes, I've never really got my head round the "correct" meaning of the term.

It's a logical fallacy when someone makes a conclusion based on a premise that lacks support: circular logic. For example: "Everyone hates Marmite because no one likes it", "The Bible is the word of God because it says so in the Bible".

Ah, I see. Only working when the blues & twos are on. Silly me for thinking there was more to it than that.

Of course you are silly, just as there is 'more to it than that', but the fact remains that they spend a lot of time not doing much.
