QUOTE (The Hatter @ Jun 14 2019, 09:02 PM) Nonsense. You are confusing the European Psrliament as a commercial firm, it isn't. If it has any claim at all to being a representative democracy, then like it or not Farage had and continues to fulfil his elected role properly. A sizeable number in the UK want to exit the EU and have wanted to for many years - Farage represents them. Frankly, paying him is rather more defendable than paying a good few other of our MEPs. Ms Abbott on the other hand represents a party who have a fundamental belief in state education. Most would be hard put to find any justification for her using the private system for her children. Her actions are true hypocracy. Really? https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/on...liament-8302643Even the IRA have higher standards than the Brexit MPs. They refuse to attend HofC and don't take their salaries.

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Jun 15 2019, 02:53 PM) One of your more stupid posts, and there's lots to choose from. Sinn Fein reject British rule and refuse to take their seats and forfeit their salaries. UKIP and Brexit MEPs are total hypocrites and take the EU’s salaries and pensions despite considering them the enemy. Gross hypocrisy. Farage is very obviously motivated by greed as in addition he’s a kept man.

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Jun 14 2019, 08:09 PM) You just hate Farage. That's your perogative but he's no worse than the others. Me? Of all of the British politicians Corbyn is the one that sends chills down my spine. He is not only ecomically illiterate but a real danger to security. Choices fella... just choices and poor ones at that. The more I see of corbyn the less i like the man. As I have constantly stated it is better to have BJ running the country than risk it falling into the hands of the far left which little doubt will lead to bloodshed on a scale that will make even the london mayor sit up. Remember the republicans elected trump because they knew he was the only one who could stop clinton and like it or not johnson is the only candidate who will beat corbyn hands down to no. 10

QUOTE (newres @ Jun 15 2019, 04:08 PM) More like can’t answer it. Comparing IRA terrorist sympathisers to Farage is bad enough, but to then think that these "politicians", many of whoom no doubt have blood on there hands, are somehow less hypocritical is beyond the pale. Even for you, you have sunk to an all time low.

They refuse to attend HofC and don't take their salaries. You are confusing the word standards with the word policy. I'd argue that the IRA's policy here is unsophisticated and ineffective. Whereas Nigel Farage had made no secret of his policy and has proved to be very effective. Again like it or not, Farage is the real democrat here; debate is far better than violence. Who would you like standing in your constituency; candidates who would debate with you or ones who would kneecap you if you dared disagree?

QUOTE (newres @ Jun 15 2019, 06:56 PM) Being able to play a guitar doesn’t make you a political genius. Look at Eric Clapton making millions out of playing Bob Marley yet supporting Enoch Powell. Personally I’d rather be guided by the experts. I didn't like the Powell approach but no one can deny his undoubted intelligence in the classical study of politics which must make him an expert? Or is the definition of an expert someone who simply gives apparent credence to someone's pre conceived ideas?

QUOTE (newres @ Jun 15 2019, 07:46 PM) Powell was a politician. Not an expert. So his career as the Emipre's youngest classics professor in the late 1930s doesn't count? Not quite sure how you'd define 'expert' but I suspect many MPs would feel badly insulted if it were held they couldn't be considered experts.

Being a Classics professor does make you an expert in Classics. And?
