QUOTE (Biker1 @ Sep 30 2018, 10:17 AM) For those of you who complain about delays etc. and especially those who incur and prevaricate about delays at Thatcham Crossing, there is an open day on October 10th at Colthrop Crossing Signal Box with guided tours. It may help some of you understand the reason for some delays and why the crossing needs to be down for so long sometimes. Unfortunately it is on a working day so some may not be able to make it. May sound a bit boring but I can assure you it is more interesting than it sounds! P.S. For those who may not know Colthrop Signal Box controls Thatcham Level Crossing, (and Midgham!). And Colthrop.

Is it to allow for the train to stop in an emergency in the worst case scenario regardless of the stopping distance and time of any particular train?

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Oct 2 2018, 05:10 PM) One thing that really annoys me is when a train is rammed full and some eejits think its OK to take a seat up with a laptop bag or other luggage. Downright rude.
One on the train today - people standing and they are completely oblivious. I gues i could ask if they bought 2 tickets?😂 The sad reality is that courtesy has nothing to do with the mode of transport adopted. An ignorant individual is just that and unfortunately they seem to be increasing in numbers. I have always, and still do, offer my seat to the nearest female but if one as much as stands up a 30s something male takes the initiative without a second thought.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Oct 16 2018, 08:34 PM) The wonders of electrification:
Due to damage to the overhead electric wires between London Paddington and Slough all lines are blocked. Impact: Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
What a complete utter shower! Still going on this morning. Electrification just brings another excuse.

All the time the government dole out subsidies I've every right to comment. I'm a citizen of this Country keenly interested in our international competitiveness, so continued failures in major projects also means I'm justified in making comments. I'm just as surprised by your consistent support for this shambles, even in spite of the Government agreeing the whole thing is a mess and setting up a special commission.

QUOTE (gel @ Oct 17 2018, 11:20 AM) This morning's chaos courtesy of Hitachi apparently; from BBC News.
"The cable damage was caused by a class 802 Hitachi train which was being tested between London and Bristol.
The train, which was empty at the time, ripped into the overhead wires, bringing them down."
The Hit in Hitachi being the operative word. Nothing to do with our railway managers then, phew! Just one thing, do you know any other organisation that would permit anyone to run 'tests' on mission critical systems, plant, or machinery without it being thoroughly checked elsewhere? Or did our highly paid, professional, very competent managers simply 'forget'. We really are a class act aren't we? International sales here we come.....

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Oct 17 2018, 09:04 AM) Who? The people responsible for providing us with a rail ‘service’, or not as the case may be.
