I agree with your sentiments TDH but lets see if this new combined outfit can do any better.

Can they reverse the trends you highlight in your post?

As for population increase - the real polluter on this planet - I don't know the answer.
What I do know is that it is unsustainable and will be our downfall if nothing IS done. sad.gif

Judging by the number of young women walking around the town ON THEIR OWN pushing a probably subsidised child in a pushchair perhaps the two brick method is worth considering! tongue.gif

All a load of headline grabbing cobblers. And Labours return might not be so far away either, now the current mob are showing signs of being just as inept.

So that Primary school teacher did not earn 200k a year, population is not going to increase and house prices are going to rocket.

You seem to have a bit of a 'monk on' today Iommi. Justify what you mean when you say its all cobblers.

The Headteacher's one is a bit, as it was made up of 2 years worth of pay and overtime, just paid in a single year.

It was not 2 years pay. It was 'some' backdated pay and a separate payment for a project he worked on. Anyway his p60 was for over £200K.

Back to the point, I still think that the headline is sensationalist as it's not reflecting the real story.

It may be sensationalist (like assylum seekers living in £2 Million pound houses) but thats what sells Newspapers.

I for one think he is overpaid. Am I wrong in thinking that or do you think that his pay award is reasonable?

I don't see the problem. The head teacher did a brilliant job by all accounts turning round a failing school. It's the usual union thing about "no-one should be paid more than anyone else".

Yes, but over £1/4M on public sector pay - come on!

I don't think speculation is correct use of 'legacy'.

As for the teacher, do we know enough about what he did to make a rational judgement?

House prices, they are too high in my view and it is their relative growth that contributed to the mess we are apparently in.

Finally, would it have been any different under anyone else?

Actually, £200K is less than £1/4M.

So what you are saying is that the public sector should only employ inferior people who would do a worse job because they have to be paid a lot less than the equivalent job in the private sector?

As far as I can make out, he was paid a basic salary of £82K, the rest being additional pay for work done on other projects over the previous three years.

Seems quite modest a salary compared to people like these who only work a three day week:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/otherspor...gue-salary.html

I believe I heard on the radio last week that the average salary in London is now over £50k p.a. anyway - makes the kind of money paid around here look a bit measly, certainly
Darren
At least a head teacher has contributed to society, which is more than can be said for those overpaid footballers the media are so in love with.

Chris Huhne hiring a speechwriter at £56,597 while cutting public services.

Michael Gove now on his 5th draft of school cuts and got it wrong yet again.

Nick Clegg on immigration amnesty.

Drunk Tory MP missed VAT vote.

New coalition have been great so far haven't they?

£100k for a teacher? A Teacher for crying out loud! Not a fireman, not a soldier or a brain surgeon a flipping PRIMARY school teacher. Disgraceful and unjustifiable from any angle.

I would argue a good teacher is easily worth it. Just think of the damage a bad teacher can do.

Are they, in what way? Don't forget they inherited labour's shambles. When labour was in power they did a lot of damage, including creating a paranoia society. I was glad they are now gone, and I am not alone.

I make it £276,000 according to the Telegraph

No, what I am saying is that people in the public sector should be paid a realistic wage especially when it is from our money paid in taxes.

This wage does not match the job he is doing.
As someone has said not a fireman, not a soldier, not a policeman, not a nurse.

I am all for a decent wage for a headteacher but this sort of money is unrealistic.

Time for some cuts?

It was even in the Star, so you must have seen it. If you can get past the jugs.

(And before somebody asks how I know, I saw it on the front cover of the paper when I was picking up The Times and the Economist. I am very observant like that wink.gif )
