A Russian drove around a military base. They could have just looked At Streetview. Hardly James Bond. Whoever reports it, it’s a non story.

If the source is irrelevant then why say this?

Because that was the link posted. rolleyes.gif

There seems to be a bit of a campaign at the moment with a senior soldier claiming the Russians are a greater threat than ISIS. A cynic might say it’s all about increasing funding for the army.

If Borat took up spying.....
SirWilliam
Surely it is purely a case of a russian research fellow completing his doctorate? (See my previous post). I quite liked the DM's take that the barracks are situated in dense woodland, laugh.gif , Guess it ads to the mystique.

No Doubt RT (Russia Today) contractor, one time leader of the Scots Nats, will be along to do a piece on this for Putin's audience.
I wonder what the Scots commander of 77 Brigade would like to do to his countryman, if he saw Alex Salmond at gate?
Personally I am appalled that the authorities allow RT to have a presence on UK soil, as it clearly a Putin fake news operation.

Who else would have JC as it's special contributor?

All the top news sites are reporting, lol. Like a boss, even bigger lol. Top secret base. It's so secret, they put a sign outside to fool people. Muppet.

Although his point was a fair one. It’s a secret base with signs outside and available on Streetview and a spy with a microphone and a film crew tried to interview a member of staff. It’s utter nonsense. It has the joint goal of further demonising the Russians and making a not so subtle bid to gain more money to defend against “sophisticated” Russian attempts at infiltration. Couldn’t make it up. It’s not even a quiet news week.

Yep, totally agree and I don't pretend to be anything else.

It was a documented fact that there were communists who were in the peace camps at Greenham.

As long as they were outside the base, who cares...

So what, so much for the peace women not being influenced or infiltrated by outsiders to do harm to those inside and outside the base.

So what.

The Tories weren't as far as I know pointing enough nuclear weapons at us to turn us and the Western world into glowing cinders ten times over. That's what.

So a known Russian reporter and a cameraman, rock up at Heathrow, customs ask for the purpose of their visit, to which they reply, we're going to the Café at Hillier's for coffee and cake. Then leave a day or so later without any questions asked.

Seems plausible to me. All to do with increasing the UK's profile as a tourist destination. Bit like saying all muslims sporting a beard and carrying an AK47 under their frock are terrorists. Evil be to he who evil thinks I say. rolleyes.gif

I'd be amazed if there weren't members of the SWP there, but I wouldn't expect them to be Soviet spies or even sympathisers. Is it ironic though that someone who moans about a perceived lack of freedom of expression feels that people shouldn't be allowed to protest because of their political views?

You can protest, breach court orders and riot if it's against Muslims or in support of some nutty right wing cause, but you're not allowed a peaceful protest if you're a member of the SWP. rolleyes.gif

More than 230 people have attempted to cross the English Channel in small boats since November, according to a tally being kept by BBC News.

How many asylum seekers are there?

In 2017, there were 26,350 applications for asylum made in the UK.

This compares with 198,255 applications for asylum made in Germany, 126,550 in Italy and 91,070 in France over the same period.

In total in the UK, there were 21,290 decisions made with 31.8% gaining some form of protection.

If you want asylum, why not go to the embassy or a border crossing point and officially ask for asylum. If you enter the country illegally, you are not an asylum seeker, you are a illegal alien.

To ask for asylum after you get caught is not an asylum seeker, your still a criminal.

If they are having to be rescued and then taken into land, are they entering illegally? What's the process for this.

They're not asylum seekers, they're economic migrants.

“Britain received less than 4 per cent of all asylum claims made in the EU during last year.”

It should be immediate deportation, as you are trying to enter the country illegally.

A true economic migrant would go through the border with all their documentation.

The reason why the UK is not getting as many asylum applications as Germany, France or Italy is because we live on a island. If GB was separated from the rest of the EU by a river no wider than the Thames there would be more attempts to enter the UK illegally.
