A one year community order? really? For killing a man? And driving away? Words fail me.

It's absolutely appalling.

That, seems, unbelievable really.

The irony is that had he contacted the police/ambulance at the time he may well have received a higher sentence as the the evidence would have pointed to driver negligence but as his defence was he "thought it was a deer" there is no way of showing the road position of his vehicle at the time owing to the time span. By making up a **** and bull story about some errant cervidae he has in effect given himself a get out clause.

But, but but.. don't forget that he also has to do a whole 240 hours of unpaid work. That's like...um....a real inconvenience.

It is though truly shocking that such a pitiful sentence was handed out. The cyclist had his lights on. His family must dispair at such 'justice' that his life was considered to be worth so little. It's little wonder that cyclists use the pavements as much as they do and keep off the busy roads..

And good for them. Most cyclists are very considerate on the pavements as far as I’ve se n. Other than the real enthiasts doing 20-30 mph I think they should all be on the pavement or cycle track.

Not often I agree with JSC. And I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but that doesn’t look like a man with sorrow.
