Yup I know it's American but certain truths are self evident:

I wonder how many in the UK would answer our Civil War question correctly?

Or for that matter the petty disagreement between the Houses of Lancaster and York? The irony being that American's only has about 500 years of westonised history to absorb, (leaving the Viking trip aside), so hardly enough to fill a decent sized novel yet they obviously struggle with this.
If you don't know history how can you avoid repeating the mistakes made during it?

Well, I watched a contestant on a quiz show who didn't know that Charles 1st was executed, another charming lady hadn't heard of the river Severn, despite visiting Bristol. I sometimes wonder what these people are doing in school?

We, apparently, live in the Thames valley, so I guess everyone in Newbury knows where the river rises?

The kennet rises alongside the A4, just north of Silbury hill.

Indeed Sir, it does, and a very fine river it is too. However, the Avon runs into and Bristol sits alongside, the Severn Estuary.

Bristol sits on the River Avon which enters the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth.
There are docks at Avonmouth but Bristol Docks are on the Avon.

On a similar theme. Question.
Which of these counties does not border Wales?
1. Shropshire.
2.Herefordshire.
3.Oxfordshire.
Contestant analysis. " I think Herefordshire is just outside London, Shropshire is over that way and Oxfordshire stretches over towards Wales so I am going for Herefordshire "

Thank god for satellite navigation.

Little more humour for the hard working element to appreciate.

The bit that amused moi was that "holy water" was imported from Jordan. Hardly the centre of modern civilisation, what is wrong with H2O out of the tap? Or even the Thames, though I would not use it a member of my family. cool.gif

It says the water was from the Jordan, not Jordan. It could as easily have been imported from Israel (I suspect tourists bring back gallons of it every year). If you believe in Christ's divinity then water from the river in which he was baptised might be meaningful.

Sounds like a good little earner. Fill up a load of empty bottles, stick a 'Bottled in Jordan" label on and flog it to the faithful. Loadsa munnny!

Well said sir , this is entrepreneurial spirit we need post brexit. The Japanese will love it , the Chinese will produce it at half the price and the Yanks will impose a trade embargo but at the moment we have little else to offer. cool.gif
