The LibDems have a convincing win in the by election for Newbury Town Council. Arguably therefore; no change. Like them or not, they certainly know how to run a good campaign. Anyway, the people have spoken, and they clearly want the Town Council to carry on in the fashion it always has.

And Labour limped in after the Greens. Good showing there then.

Quite so, but they must have been aware of the election and the issues. Even in this week's NWN a letter from Peter Norman says spoil your ballot paper if you disagree but can't see a candidate to vote for. Arguably then, the 66% absentees could be taken as 'satisfied with the status quo'. They certainly can't complain about toilet closures, robe gate etc can they?

Yes they can. They are still citizens and they probably pay/have paid their taxes.

I think people have come to realise that every time they vote, someone wins, whether it is who they want or not, so they don't bother!

And I suspect that you are quite right!

That would just be grumbling and won't be taken very seriously. A bit like going to a restaurant, having a dreadful service and leaving a tip.
