Is it just me or are those ads on the side of the screen interfering with other members putting up posts etc? Whoever designed it has done a bad job. They - the ads - are taking up a quarter of the screen and over lapping into the writing area.

ugger off and leave it.
On my computer and laptop the forum is squashed up on the left with a quarter of the screen white and then the ads.... and the ads half obscure the writing area. It is really annoying.

No such problems on my Apple PC. Ads on the right quarter of the screen.

Thanks for that; maybe it affects some computers. But it is really bad on mine. I wish they leave things alone until they know what they are doing. Starting a job and then half finishing it is bad professionalism. I've even got half the writing cut off; the writing from the forum.

Something not quite right, certainly, as on my screen I've lost a word or two on the right from GMR regarding police activity in Northbrook St today. Luckily, I'd left the scene before they arrived

I don't have any problem. There's an add right at the bottom, but it doesn't interfere. If there is any difference, then it is likely to be browser dependant.

Grr! I thought it must be those poor benighted souls who use Internet Explorer. A few minutes ago it was fine in Firefox, with the ads at the bottom of the screen. So I fired up IE and sure enough got the ads on the right.
I went back to Firefox and blow me down, now the ads are on the right. with everything squashed up. No problem with losing any text, though.
Perhaps they are working on it as we speak...

I think they were more interesting in the money the adverts can bring in than the welling being of the members on here.
It seems worse today; the forum is squashed up on the left; half the screen is taken up with just white space and just two adverts on top. Was the price worth paying to get a few quid in the till?

Perhaps we should boycott this site for its incompetence, or greed? The people that are responsible for this site clearly don't know what they are doing, or have a forum solution that is not robust enough to cope with inserting adverts properly.

I can understand them wanting to improve things; but to half do a job, tools down when it is time to go home and leave this place as if they don't care is not very professional.

Er, Ctrl + F5 reloads the page in its entirety, so if the page hasn't changed then you won't notice anything. Should, however, Bill1 do it, then he will see the new (CRAP) style that intrudes so frustratingly into the user space. I see also it is getting worse, more CRAP adverts.
ADMIN - IF WE HAVE TO HAVE THESE CRAP ADVERTS PLEASE CENTRE JUSTIFY THE PAGE AND DON'T ENCROACH THE EDIT SPACE FOR POSTS.
Mind you, if this is the way the NWN want things to go, then I feel not like using this board any more, they have spoiled it.

I noticed more ads; they (being NWN) seem a bit obsessive with these ads. One would of thought that correcting the lay of the land would be more of a priority.... but then i suppose I could be called naive for thinking that.

Calm down. It's only a forum. It's not life or death.
A quick restart of the server will probably cure it.

It maybe only a forum, but it is a forum that NWN wishes us to use therefore it is not too much to expect it to be in working order.
As for a restart; read above as Admin has admitted it is there fault so no matter how many times one start the server you are going to get the same results.

I agree the time has come to move on, however, without us voicing our opinion/ concerns then they (being admin) wouldn't know what was what.
I also agree with you about these being good forums. The problem never was the adverts; per se but them overlapping the writing area.

A restart may well resolve the issue, as it can be caused by the java application partially crashing, a memory leak causing the RAM to run short.
OK, it's also likely that someone made a ham-fisted change to the HTML code too.
Follow the 3 R's
Restart
Reload
Rebuild

On the contrary. Reloading the base design from a previous good version will usually resolve the fault. You then reintegrate the actual content. It's a lot quicker than scanning line after line of HTML code to find the cause. The restart then allows the OSI layers in the server to load in the correct sequence.
