I cannot get my head round this!

I'm off to sunnier climes that are based in the real world.

Well, "Shoplifter wins right to damages" isn't the only way to see this. "children win right to the protection of their mother" is another slant. Whatever floats your boat.

That she's a shoplifter, or for that matter that she's Jamaican, isn't the point - though it does get the juices flowing, doesn't it. The point is that she's a mother, because this is about the rights of the children. The mother is fighting deportation and it would appear that the Home Office have detained her pending that decision, and the court has ruled that it was disproportianate to detain her when you balance the risk of her absconding against the needs of her children for their mother.

My first thought was, dare I say it, that perhaps the children could do with another mother! But in truth, this all should be put through a lot quicker so these issues don't arise. I wouldn't leave the UK based on this episode though.

Chuck this thieving scum out, the kids can easily go back with her. The kids might also benefit from their Grandparents influence back in Jamaica as well.

Why should be rewarded though? Fine don't deport her, we don't seem to deport anyone these days unless they don't deserve it, but why give her a chunk of money?

The law in this country is an ar*se. It rewards the feckless, workshy and criminal at the expense of those that regularly contribute. I can understand wanting to leave for a country that rewards good citizens. France appears to be a favorite choice from what I am hearing.

I believe Vietnamese uses the Roman alphabet, anyway. Are you thinking of Thai?

Written Vietnamese was originally based upon Chinese characters. The Europeans, in another display of magnanimity, began to change that almost as soon as the missionaries arrived.
