Apparently there are known 'technical bugs' according to a note I managed to squeeze out of Sainsbury's HO. So those suffering from the 'irritating messages' might find relief is on its way.

It seems to be a lost art in the UK designing the 'human / machine' interface. Someone was in the Library this Saturday where an IT chap was explaining how the automated machines work to an OAP. He pointed out one or two fundamental errors leaving the IT chap gob smacked.

NatWest have a similar problem with paying in machines - where you insert your card one way and the cheque the other! Apparently we should all know that a cheques 'machine readable line' is on the bottom.

So much for UK's IT skills!

OK thanks I'll give it a try and report back.

If it was only me I could understand but the number of confused people I see at these checkouts seems to prove that it is not! tongue.gif

Human beings cost money to employ. Machines after the initial outlay do not. If the supermarkets could get away with no staff and a robocop type security staff member they would! laugh.gif

I knew I shouldn't have been so sure of myself. Was in there this morning, and got an unexpected item in bagging area which wouldn't go away until the assistant waved her card at it. smile.gif

Incidentally it was packed at 12.00 - where do they all come from on a weekday?

I'm allowed to be in there when everyone else is at work. Usually I can get my shopping done without having to share the place with hoi polloi smile.gif

Yes I suppose Bank Holiday had a lot to do with it. wink.gif
