That is because we are a lot softer. Here is it worth going to prison, even if it is just for the holiday.

Have you been inside, or ever visited a prison? Or do you get your information from the Daily Mail?

No one I know who has been to prison has ever described it as a holiday.

I think it's just parroted Daily Mail nonsense, as usual.

Have you? I am going by what I've read and what people have told me. And I don't read the Daily mail. I read the Economist.

The trouble is i don't read the Daily mail. It might not be a holiday, but at the same time it is not hard labour. Holiday camp was a euphemism for a lot easier than it was a hundred years ago. And I do know people who have been in and they said it wasn't bad, the only problem was the restrictions about going out.

I think prison's purpose is multifaceted. Punishment is one aspect, the main one, I suggest, is to protect the public.

I agree, and that is what it should be.

The more crime we can deter the less people we have to punish and as a result we have a more stable society.

isn't that the bleeding bloody obvious?

No, but I'm not pontificating about it either.

I wasn't 'pontificating' about it. I spoke about what I've heard or know from people who have been inside. Anyway, whether pontificating or not it gave you a few minutes of pleasure. If you went to a prostitute you would have had to pay. At least I don't charge. wink.gif
