QUOTE (gel @ Feb 20 2010, 07:17 PM) Glad to see the latest Yellow Pages is a lot thinner/lighter than last one.
Have they taken a lot of listings out I wonder?? Or reduced the area covered?

Found on Yell group website; Yellow Pages directories to be published in handy compact size in biggest design revamp for more than forty years. Yellow Pages directories are to undergo their most significant revamp in more than forty years since they were first produced in the UK, with their publication in a smaller compact size rather than traditional A4 format. The change in size – a reduction of five centimetres in height and four centimetres in width – follows research amongst Yellow Pages users that revealed that the compact directory increased usage by seven per cent(*1) compared with the A4 format. An overwhelming number – 85 per cent(*2) – said they would prefer to receive a compact format directory rather than a standard A4 size. In tests, a greater proportion of compact users than A4 users agreed it was easy to read, easy to use and a manageable size. The reduction in size is being introduced for Yellow Pages directories published from the end of June this year and is a key element of a package of directory design changes to enhance ease of use. These also include a new “local listings” feature making it easier for consumers to find a business in their desired location. More... http://www.yellgroup.com/english/media-pre...ethanfortyyearsSeems that our area may be a trial as it says from JUNE, unless they rolled it out early?

QUOTE (Simon @ Feb 22 2010, 12:33 PM) Wouldnt it be easier and more cost effective for the people at yellow pages to stop sending them out unless you request it.
With a majorty of houses having access to the interent, i would imagine most of the books ending up in the bin without being looked at This is OK until your Broadband goes down, your PC breaks or you have a powercut. This is then the day people would want the hard copy they threw away

QUOTE (Strafin @ Feb 22 2010, 04:48 PM) If they deliver to everyone, they can claim a higher circulation when selling advertising space. Tks for that. Talking of powercuts ours (North of Chieveley) went off at 9.20 am, and didnt resume till 1.45pm. In between we had short period at reduced voltage (137v) which caused appliances to make odd noises.

QUOTE (GMR @ Feb 23 2010, 06:24 PM) I don't use it on the Internet either you know full well that that is not what I meant. . Before Internet i probably ever used it one or twice. - okay, I'll play along. So, 15 years ago, where did you go to get; either a phone number, or information on local services, companies etc about which you had no prior knowledge?

I knew exactly what you meant and what I said still stands. Phone numbers I got from a phone book (not yellow pages, which, as I said, I never, or hardly ever used).
