If this is allowed to occur then it will be a disgrace.

Why?

The group concerned have already undertaken not to clash with any returning coffins and all that is necessary is for the local people and the media top simply ignore them and not grant them the oxygen of publicity.

Presumably you have no qualms about the BNP parading through Bradford shouting Anti-Islamic slogans then?

What happened to the 'last post'?

I really don't agree with it but I think Berkshirelad has a point, the best thing people can do is just turn their backs and ignore it. In this country we are very lucky to be free and have the freedom of speech. If there is to be a picture in the newspaper the following day I for one would like it to be of these numpties walking down a totally deserted street, not one of people fighting each other over beliefs.

I was under the impression that the parade is to honour all the Afghani civilians who have died.

No - It says in the report that it is for "Muslims its says have been "murdered in the name of democracy and freedom"".

Perhaps they should hold the parade in Afghanistan in front of the Taliban?

Why not admit it - you're not fully occupied at work and you need something to help you pass the time? laugh.gif Does your employer actually have an internet access policy? It might be worth checking... wink.gif

Why is James Corden's picture there on the right above the caption "Most Wanted Criminals on Run in UK"? wink.gif

And how is the Muslim cleric in the video allowed to remain in this country?

I'm actually quite concerned about you Hugh as you seem fascinated by me. Perhaps I ought to contact the NWN admin team as I don't like being stalked by a weirdo.

Sounds like honouring all the Afghani families killed in the course of the war in their country. A war they didn't ask for.

Would that be the same Taliban that Sandy Gall used to ride around with in the 1980's?

It's just not a suitable place or time for that kind of protest. Obviously it's not to honour anyone, it's to highlight their objections to the war. Their protest is valid, their right to freedom of expression is as free as anyones, but their choice of using Wooton Basset though is questionable and is just making them look disrespectful, hence the outcry.

If they want to protest then they should do it against the government who sent them, not the soldiers who only where obeying orders. If they do protest it will cause a lot of trouble and ill will towards the whole Muslim community (not just towards the protesters where I would imagine there will be a backlash).

It is legitimate to protest, even if unsavoury, but it is a shame that 'they' only seem to protest when it is an East/West conflict, not when the tribes from their own spiritual home are guilty of atrocities to their own people. The problem with this thing, is this protest seems to be designed to stoke the fire of resentment between Muslims and Non Muslims. In that regard, the veracity of this protest is questionable.

I'd have to agree, they have the right to protest and the reason they're doing it where they are is for maximum publicity. If you don't like it ignore them, they're not breaking the law. If we banned everything that someone thought was in poor taste our society would suffer.

The right of free speech we have, the right to parade on the street we don't. This proposal should be stopped. The people of Wootton Bassett are honouring Her Majesty's forces. They are, like us her subjects. I'm afraid it would be quite wrong just to simply ignore the proposed parade as it is an insult to the Crown. Free speech is acceptable; this is not to be classed as such.
