More hyperbole, "The death toll from the new virus, which is officially called 2019-nCov, now stands at 259. "

Still, don't let facts get in your way. 😁

The Yanks are under no illusion regarding China's official figures and with the diplomatically challenged Donald in charge I can see a lot of flack flying before too long. China could lose 2 million and no one, except those concerned, would bat an eyelid so it seems this has a fair bit of mileage left.

I suspect the China death toll is the number of people that have died
as a direct result of it. Anyone with an underlying condition wont have been included... so they have a get out clause...

Bet a few leaders wished they had thought of that one. How many would have succumbed to seasonal flu anyway? Doesn't detract from the fact that these pandemics are always round the corner and when they do surface we are ill prepared. Can do nothing to prevent the virus emerging but we should have had a policy on hand to combat it.

On the plus side for the NHS there will be a lot less very ill people at the end of this... an inconvenient truth..

Just watched "Have I Got News For You". If you missed it well worth doing the catch up thing. When we lose our sense of humour it will be the end.

I found it a bit weird, to be honest. It was still pretty funny though.

Theee are 21 million less mobiles in use in China now than in October 2019. Strange that...

While according to some, 5G is to blame for the virus, yes really. I really despair.

About a week ago the BBC did a piece from Russia which included a doctor, (yes a doctor), who had set up her practice in a local church to see her patients because "god will not allow this virus to enter his house". I am not surprised it is getting out of control with this sort of thinking. The Hong Kong Flu outbreak in the late 60's killed around a million globally and I bet you would be hard pressed to archive a press cutting, but this chap has a great publicity officer and everyone is getting paranoid.

Finally, and not a minute to bloody soon, they have removed the exception "taking exercise" from the government directive on what is permitted. If they are that desperate to keep their muscles in shape try walking up and down stairs 20 times an hour. Be interesting to see what happens this weekend if the sun comes out and how poor old plod deals with it.

No they haven’t. Us that are still able can run.

You can run but you can't hide. cool.gif Every time you venture out you prolong the chaos that is our lot. Now I am hoping you are sensible enough to exercise away from people but not near remote settlements. This is an almost impossible ask but contact must be kept to a minimum. Just because some government spokesperson says you can go out once a day doesn't make it an ideal but I appreciate that we need to buy food etc, so combine the two and reduce your footfall.
It would appear that the slight ambiguity between the government stance and the scientific one is that the government is frightened that if the conditions are too draconian then they may have civil unrest to deal with. Even this evenings tv news showed vast crowds on Brighton seafront which is giving the police an almighty headache.

Be under no illusion this virus is nasty and we all need to play our part. We can't kill it outside the host so the best we can do is stop it infecting people and that can only be achieved by distancing.

I have just watched the above programme on iplayer and if you, like me, missed it first time round I urge you to watch. If anyone still thinks these viruses are not to be taken seriously this will change your minds.

Whatever catastrophe comes along it always has a beneficial side. The eco warriors have taken refuge in their second homes in the middle of Wales and "queen elect" Nicola has not mentioned Scottish independence once.
