Bats disturbed in house demolition alleged Options

I have heard a rumour that a few weeks ago, a house in Bishop's Green was demolished, leaving the sky filled with evicted bats. I understand that other houses are due for demolition that have bat boxes, so there could be more, but this is all second hand information to me.

Anyone know anything about this?

* Recklessly kill or injure any bat
* Disturb a bat at roost
* Damage a roost site or obstruct the entrance

Concerning the bats; I would presume that it was an accident and not intentional. However, now you are on the case I am sure that there will be an imminent arrest and all bat lovers can rest assured that our sleuth is on the ball... or should that be bat & ball?

Children ! This spat is getting a little out of hand . I can sympathise with the concerns of the bat supporters and if it is found to be as reported then the demolisher will be in serious trouble because they are legally obliged to survey the property before work commences .

Unfortunately GMR , bats don't re roost like a flock of say starlings but run a very real risk of colony collapse without the sanctuary of their former home .

I am sure we all appreciate the problems that these delightful little animals face so please treat the report seriously until ( hopefully ) it is proved ill founded .

Thank you lordtup, all I was trying to do is establish if this is true. These houses have bat boxes so there would be little excuse for an accident. I heard, apparently, that the sky turned black with bats when the box was allegedly disturbed during the demolition.

Update: Apparently, the demolition occurred between Linden Road and Ash Road. I understand that there are more houses with bat boxes that are due for demolition.

The information I got is from an eye witness who lives local and is a friend of a friend of mine, hence the desire to corroborate the story. This eye witness saw the bats disturbed from the their home, in daylight - if that makes a difference or not.

As for 'colony collapse' I do believe that bats do usually find another place to live... or that is what I was told (not being a bat expert).

Neighbourly vigilance is alive and healthy in the Newbury district. If the bats do come to any harm then it is a collective responsibility to do something about it.... individual responsibility seems hard pushed on occasions.
