I have heard a rumour that a few weeks ago, a house in Bishop's Green was demolished, leaving the sky filled with evicted bats. I understand that other houses are due for demolition that have bat boxes, so there could be more, but this is all second hand information to me.

Anyone know anything about this?

Before this thread becomes infested with puerile posts, I'd like to add the following.

The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 means it is illegal to:

* Recklessly kill or injure any bat
* Disturb a bat at roost
* Damage a roost site or obstruct the entrance

The Bat Conservation Trust
Unit 2, 15 Cloisters House
8 Battersea Park Road
London SW8 4BG
Tel: 020 7627 2629
Fax: 020 7627 2628

Alternatively, if it's an emergency, the Trust also provides a special contact number. Call the Bat Helpline on 0845 1300 228.

So you think using such language brightens up your thread? I have noticed that you use such colourful language quite lot; a sign of a weak intellect my friend (try just sticking with your dry sense of humour instead... unless you want to impress the rough?) wink.gif

At least this tete-a-tete has brightened up your thread poser.

What animal cruelty? Bats were displaced; not killed... I am sure they will find another home. It is life (Darwin's evolution... you might have heard it?). Don't exaggerate; trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Idiot.

I said 'potential' animal cruelty, NOT KILLED. Second, it is illegal!!!

Just to remind your vacuous little mind...

The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 means it is illegal to:

* Recklessly kill or injure any bat
* Disturb a bat at roost
* Damage a roost site or obstruct the entrance

Again the emotive language, but then again it probably isn't your fault. You probably know no better. Not all parents taught their children the proper etiquette of jousting.

Concerning the bats; I would presume that it was an accident and not intentional. However, now you are on the case I am sure that there will be an imminent arrest and all bat lovers can rest assured that our sleuth is on the ball... or should that be bat & ball?

Again, laughing at alleged cruelty, you sick minded little man. And don't bring my parents in to this. My anger is generated by your insistence in making fun of the topic.

Children ! This spat is getting a little out of hand . I can sympathise with the concerns of the bat supporters and if it is found to be as reported then the demolisher will be in serious trouble because they are legally obliged to survey the property before work commences .

Unfortunately GMR , bats don't re roost like a flock of say starlings but run a very real risk of colony collapse without the sanctuary of their former home .

I am sure we all appreciate the problems that these delightful little animals face so please treat the report seriously until ( hopefully ) it is proved ill founded .

Thank you lordtup, all I was trying to do is establish if this is true. These houses have bat boxes so there would be little excuse for an accident. I heard, apparently, that the sky turned black with bats when the box was allegedly disturbed during the demolition.

Update: Apparently, the demolition occurred between Linden Road and Ash Road. I understand that there are more houses with bat boxes that are due for demolition.

The information I got is from an eye witness who lives local and is a friend of a friend of mine, hence the desire to corroborate the story. This eye witness saw the bats disturbed from the their home, in daylight - if that makes a difference or not.

I wasn't making fun of the topic; you over reacted and it has ended up like this. You are just trying to make a drama out of this.

Even if the story is true - and it is in some places - very rarely do we ever get to see a prosecution.

I agree about your concerns over those bats.

As for 'colony collapse' I do believe that bats do usually find another place to live... or that is what I was told (not being a bat expert).

Thanks you for you concern...I'm glad to see neighbourly vigilance is alive and healthy in Newbury district. Whether these bats came to harm or not is besides the point.

You are welcome my friend.

Neighbourly vigilance is alive and healthy in the Newbury district. If the bats do come to any harm then it is a collective responsibility to do something about it.... individual responsibility seems hard pushed on occasions.
