A real number between 1 and 12, or a number up to 12 digits long?

If a number between 1 and 12, then 7, it is the most common selection when asked to give a 'random' number.
If up to 12 digits, then 8388608.

All numbers are infinitive in the monkey verse. And one is the loneliest number, I know, I heard it on the radio!

Again, curious. It wouldn't be my choice, I could never plant two trees for example, it would have to be three, I don't find two to be a restful number

Yes real, but it doesn't have to be rational so as many digits as you please, but it should be between 1 and 12.

And yes, I'd have chosen 7 - I wonder why that is.

It was a choice without care for the consequence. If you asked pick a value between £1.00 and £12.00, I'd pick £12.00. If you asked pick a number between 1 press-up and 12 press-ups, I'd pick 1.

Yes, good one.

I'll choose the golden ratio, in deference to art, architecture, and human perception.

I was told it is bacuase we do not choose top or bottom and the centre seems a bit precise so you go just above or below it - 7 sounds less precise (i.e. more random) than 5 so when told to choose a number between 1 & 12 inclusive at random 7 is the modal number chosen

But the centre (6.5) is not as precise as 7.

I chose 6, first number that came into my head. Might have been because I was sitting at pub table no.6, waiting for food to arrive!

I see 7 as a propitious restful number, not uncomfortably even, but with just the right amount of asymmetry. That's not unlike what you said.
