Nothing much has happened here for a bit so a little ramble for Easter Monday.
(I hope I don't offend anyone. )

I joined F/B years ago and never used it until I tried to post recently on the N P&P pages.
Because I had no appropriate or obvious connection to Newbury I was ignored.
I managed to blag my way on which was fine.

But I seem to have been accepted by another group that has a presence on my screen.
Frank Swinkels has approved my request to join the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II group.

Blimey, no idea how that happened. The Google ads always seem to be one step behind my searches
but joining a plane anorak group was not my idea. And now apart from being racist, I am obviously a war mongering
Telegraph reading US loving fascist. At least the UN envoy hasn't labelled me sexist along with 50% of the nation. Yet.

Basically my beef (non vegetarian comments are allowed at the moment) is that I don't like that plane at all.
Probably a good all round workhorse, but I like Big Jets. B58, B47,B52 and the big USSR prop ones as well.

I think the Phantom was an great looking plane, as was the Lightening and the Starfighter. We all had the Airfix kits for those, didn't we, not withstanding the Apollo landing kit?

That wasn't just the Airfix kit, that was the actual thing!

Your neck of the woods was always good for a bit of plane-potting NM. I used to see the fast jets when I visited Aldeburgh, and there was more exotic hardware to be seen around Rendlesham Forest.

I'm thinking about another aircraft then, I'm sure it looked like the starfighter but its nickname made some allusion to flying into the ground - coffin nail or ground dagger, something like that.

No I think that is all the same one. It was sold as a fighter, but wasn't agile. It was more of a reconnaissance jet, but it looked the coolest, despite its ability. The Lightening was cool too!

Meteor fighters had some terrible losses. A flight of 6 came down over fen country after getting lost in fog and cloud and running out of fuel. At one stage they were losing them on a weekly basis.
And then there was Death by Jet. A pilot was disciplined for some flying matter and late at night took off in his Meteor and was never seen again. Maybe he landed at Rendlesham

Yes There are some exotic flights over my place Simon. 617 Sqdn is due to form up at RAF Marham soon with
Lightning IIs. Time from my drive by car is about 40 minutes. By F22 from over my chimneys 3 minutes possibly.

That really was quite strong. And I don't imagine anyone of us knew of it's alternative use!
