Waitrose Newbury has been selected out of all their stores to trial a mini Garden Centre.
Assume will take over some of car park.

Quote from link supplied:-

QUOTE
Waitrose is remaining tight-lipped about its intentions. A spokesperson told diyweek.net: "Waitrose has an established flower and plant offer and we are exploring ways of extending this at our Newbury branch, with a modest unit close to our shop...any plans are confidential at this stage."

Reading this to me it does not look like this will even be at the same location as the current store

When I saw "pilot", I thought helicopter. But then the air ambulance charity have been apparently banned from collecting there.

The John Lewis Partnership are already into plant sales, though not through the Waitrose brand, so that's a bit of a departure - if you want to see what they do take a trip down to Longstock, worth a trip just for a mooch about really. It's not a garden centre, it's a plant nursery, so there's none of the machinery and stuff you get in a garden centre, but they have a good range of plants, including aquatics. I'll be interested to see what they're planning.

Page 8 of this weeks NWN. "Air Ambulance fundraisers grounded by Waitrose ban" The Newbury store has banned air ambulance charity collectors from collecting outside the Newbury Waitrose store "at the request of their customers".

Seems to be OK for the British legion to collect there though.

Let's hope Sainsbury's and Tesco follow suit and ban the car wash people from harassing their customers.

Harassing?

Verbatim conversation I had yesterday morning.

Car washer "Car wash?"
Me "No, thank you."
Car washer "OK."

Hardly harassment.

Exactly. In fact I usually say "No thank you" automatically as I get out of my car. smile.gif

And it's a good thing you do unless you want to see your paint completely ruined.

I offer detailing services. laugh.gif laugh.gif

At the risk of giving you a nasty turn, I prefer the car wash. And it's cheaper, too.

It gets me that we are expected to pay. Sainsbury's want our custom don't they? Suspect they'll have us paying for bags next!
