I don't understand your comment. According to my calendar, Shrove Tuesday is indeed tomorrow.

Leave the pancakes alone, surely they've suffered enough? I only had my first pancake last year (like I did so many other things for the first time) and I wasn't overly impressed. It tasted like slightly off bread and I was not allowed to have salad cream with it.
Think it's a bit of a fad like valentines day, nothing really to celebrate and it's just where the Syrup companies make lots of money and you end up with things stuck to your ceilings.

Is this a recent North American import? It was sugar and lemon juice when I was a kid.

Still the best way to have them.

Maple syrup is the American way - for breakfast every day - not a culinary delight.

The French have a huge variety of fillings for their crepes - but none of them I have tried come close to matching sugar and lemon juice - yum!

Now I'm going to have to make some pancakes - bye.
