NEWBURY'S so-called “Boy Racers” claimed this week that they are being “harassed” by police and asked for it to stop.
Hitting back at residents’ cricticisims of their behaviour and their driving on local roads, a large group of male and female teenagers invited Newburytoday to come and spend some time with them at Newbury Retail Park on Friday night so they could explain their frustrations.
One teenager, 17-year-old Tyler Bridgeman, said the car park offered his social circle the only place to meet away from their homes and the watchful eyes of their parents, and had given him the opportunity to make new friends.

As it's their peers, they need to work on educating the trouble makers.

Then in time trust will be built up and maybe they can continue to meet in the car parks. A little self policing will go a long way

I have been on the side of the boy racers so far, but last night I popped up to Mcdonalds drive through and there were loads parked in the car park. At first I thought fair play to them, they looked to be having fun but then the idiots started wheel spinning, pulling handbrake turns and performing donuts in the car park, causing mayhem and smoke.

Admittedly, it wasn't all of them and was just a few, but its that few that case the police to "harass" them. So the blame lies with the idiots of the group and not the police

Why dont the 90% of good ones disassociate with the troublesome ones?

I know this may cause a short term risk for the well behaved ones, but once the unwelcome people are removed either because they feel alienated or because they are arrested for any crime perpetrated the others can get on with their socialising in peace.

How about racing up and down outside their own houses (more likely to be parent's houses) ?

The boy racers do not have any repect for themselves so you are wasting your time talking about repect they should show for other road users or house holders.
They would not know what you mean.

i used 2 do all of this stuff im now 20 and grown out of it abit, but a little while ago i was thinkin of why dont i just find an unused stretch of land like at greeham airbase and put them all in there i was thinkin of doing a club eg 'south central cruisers' and call it 'newbury cruise' like reading n all the other places have, that way there all in 1 place and they can do anything they want, if they crash.. tuff hopefully they will learn by there mistakes! it would be fun 4 them and get it all out of there system, you could work with the traffic cops keeping it all under control outside the area etc.. and wot goes on inside the zone stays inside no harm done. i have neva followd this up as i have no idea were 2 start

what do u lot think?

Why not get together and pay for a track day somewhere rather than expect it to be provide for you?

because for 1 thers a gestimate of around 100-200 people a week go round newbury, not every1 get along with each other thats why they have the small groups but the 2 spaces were every1 goes because thers not enough room 4 every1 in just macas or just tescos, and also that would only be 1 day, im talking night time mainly and it would be pretty much every night, you could also make money out of it by doin the race days on weekends pay for drag racing against each other, closest place they can do that i think is santa pod which is only on big events wich costs alot of money 2 do and teens are always skint

As Greenham Common is open to the public and they can walk nearly everywhere there I reckon you would soon get the same agro flung at you as happens at Tescos etc., If the boy racers had a stretch of space there they would soon break the rules and be roaring about all over the place. The beauty of Greenham Common does not need to be spoiled by stupid youths trying to be big or the noise this sort of thing would bring.

They all go to the new Sainsbury's car park now, thats the new hot spot, so you wont be seeing them anywhere else like Mc Donalds for example.

Wow how exciting for these people a new car park to play in. It really doesn't get much better than that!

What disappoints me is the negative environmental aspect also of these characters.

We are suffering the most serious environmental and fuel crisis in our history and their antics are only exacerbating it.

Surely it would be far better to encourage them to take up a more environmentaly friendly pursuit such as conservation or cycle racing.

Okay, get them to buy and race an Eco friendly or an eletrical car?

This is exactly why boy reacers aren't wanted in these public car parks.

If what you are doing is so frowned upon by your parents why would the public want you doing it in places they might need to go.

I would rather you were at McDonalds then racing past my house though.

i didnt say greenham common, theres old air strips and conreted areas up there which is what i was refering 2, but that was only an example shuda gone 2 specsavers..
point is people, they all want 2 do it and they will do it cuz they keep geting told not 2 wich give them the rush 2 do it more, just the way it is, if u work WITH them u will get somewhere.. basic point im tryin 2 get accros is that this is guna happen no mata wot so insted of geting rid of the problem move it out of the way from every1 else.. if u were 2 ask all the people that hang out in these places there opinion on this topic of having a specific place out of the way i garantee pretty much every 1 of them would agree

Wispa - Do you think you could possible write in English, as reading this is pretty painful. Try using the spellchecker (the ABC tickbox on the top right when composing) if you find it difficult to do yourself.
