Bloggo, TDH and Biker1 are going to love this.

It would seem he was charged with using a public electronic communications network to cause harassment alarm or distress. He will get no custody, not even suspended. It was reported that he wrote, "... Police deserve getting killed - I support any riot that targets police and property. All cops are scum. ...”

OK, I agree that language like this doesn't look like a call to arms, but I am not persuaded by the argument: It’s not particularly offensive; it wouldn’t grossly offend a normal person. ... tedious and annoying ... rather than an incitement to harm police ... the terms “cut up” and “kill” could have different meanings when used by young people.

I don't know about you, but if I were a policeman, I might find the comments disturbing and as a member of the public I certainly feel they are offensive views to post.

Bloggo has nothing to say, he was nailed to the floor in the previous thread about this. Pure hypocrisy.

The other two are just funny.

This teenager may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but he aint exactly a clear and present danger, or an ongoing menace to society. It's over £50.000.00 a year to keep someone in jail, so Bloggo would spend nearly a quarter of a million pounds to keep the rest of us safe from a non-threat. Laughable.

So people do see sense after all. Most of us would agree with the sentiments; when was the last time you saw a copper and thought "what a delectable young fellow" as you quietly drink your shandy with Jenavive and a fox?

I use "kill" all the time, if I ask my Mum to do something and when I go to her house, she hasn't done it "ugh I'm going to kill you." It doesn't mean reach for the sharpest knife in the drawer..

Offensive communications are fine wink.gif The Communications Act only prohibits grossly offensive communications, or those of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

I'm struggling to see why what he posted should be considered a criminal act, to be honest. Unwise, perhaps, and maybe offensive, but that's about it.

Having read the comments, they are certainly stronger than what I was expecting.

I would be ashamed to post comments like those the person did. Perhaps this is in some small way an example of how respect has fallen within society. His comments also have to be put into context of the time. I'm not suggesting he deserves gaol, but given his reported contemptible attitude in court, I'm not sure a community order will be the end of it.

He got off lightly. 4 years that the other similar offenders got was probably a bit harsh, but he should have been given a custodial sentence.

He's only 19, but has already got 2 criminal offences to his name now. That says plenty about the kind of person he is.

A few months on top for the spaz haircut wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Why drag me into this? But since you have...........
The country is full of these menaces. Letting them off scot free time after time will on exacerbate the situation.

Well he has no prior convictions (or at least any which are of importance to be announced in court) - jail time for this would be a complete waste of Taxpayers money. Even a 6 month setance would cost more than the average persons income.....and just make the kid more angry. unsure.gif

Maybe a suspended one might have been useful?

How much of it was caused by this guy (and soley this guy?)

You can't become like America in a time of National Crisis when someone in the government screws up - you can't go around punishing people who weren't directly responsible

oooh... well let's not make this 'kid' angry shall we. We've got yumen rights to think about.

All this bleating that comes from the 'Teenagers of Today' saying that they want to be treated as adults (from 14 years old upwards) yet when the excrement hits the air conditioning device they (defence lawyers, family members etc) try to point out that "He's only young..." Can't have it both ways

BANG HIM UP I say...!

In the interests of fairness and having looked at both sides of the argument and balanced the issues and taking his comments into consideration my considered opinion is that while we still have that nice crane in Newbury, we should :

STRING HIM UP !!

By the whatsits preferably.

It wasn't anything regarding human rights; it was just how people talk and the use of language and how it's evolved over the last 10 years or so. I grew up in this generation and while I don't know your age I can only guess you're at least mid 40's (sorry rolleyes.gif) as most people on this forum are so old they have wee bags. (I want a wee bag, imagine being able to wee anywhere, that would be brilliant)

And how I might post on my blog how I hope someone dies or that if I had a gun I'd shoot everyone who talked to me *at a given time*....doesn't mean I would do it, while the anger or dislike towards a person (or in this young chaps case the police) may be real the actual actions are probably not literally intended.

You'd like to think that is true, but I don't think it is. We all use slang like this, but it would be in context. The fact only a few people have been pulled up for this suggests that the language is not THAT common amongst the grunt generation.

If the police had not acted upon the stupidity of a complete tw@t and damage to property or worse someone injured or even killed, what would be said on this forum?

It's all very well saying 'I didn't mean it', but funnily enough, we are still not able to read minds.
Considering the possibility that what is said 'maybe' true, you cannot take the risk.

Why would he?

I think we can see what's really going on here.

There were 10 threats to kill reported to police in the last six months in West Berkshire. Only 2 have been 'solved'. That's a 20% detection rate when TVP have a target for this type of crime of 42% detection.

As for respect.....
