This article is on the Newbury Remembrance Day parade but isn't this picture of Thatcham?

Yes - it relates to the part of the story about selling poppies in Thatcham.

OMG - SHOCK HORROR!!!!

This is a landmark moment. Never in decades has anything of such import occurred on a public forum.

Everyone take a screen print of this topic,

User 23 has just admitted that they were wrong!

(just playing User, no offence intended!)

So is User 23 more than one person then?

No, that is correct grammar for a singular person.

It's not actually. It's a recent politically correct fudge to avoid saying 'he' when the gender is unknown.wink.gif

According to Wikipedia, singular they has been used as a gender-neutral third person pronound since the 14th century. Gramatically it was used perfectly correctly, and as it's presumptious to assume User's gender its use was completely appropriate here. And even if it weren't, there was no need to call the grammar-police.

My Old English teacher at JoG would be so proud that my grammar has caused a debate!!!

Obviously if I was wrong then it's their fault and not mine!!!

I'm afraid that's where you're wrong. It's the correct way (as I was taught in grammar school in 1966) to refer to someone where the gender is not known.
