Does anyone really believe that 29 consecutive school leaving years have been cleverer than there predecessors?

Why not just give everyone 100% and A+ Grades for all subjects. Thats where this is heading!

Nothing at all wrong there as far as I can see Simon.

Several dots are often used to indicate a rest of a full beat rather than a comma. Normally, but not exclusively, used in script writing.

The ellipsis represents either an omitted idea or text. Of course, if you know better ... . It also takes a following space. There is nothing omitted in "If they can spell ...yes.", and rather it needs a comma, or if the intention was to create an affected pause, an em dash.

And it's Weaver's Walk too.

TD&H, you missed a that's as well.

I believe anyone can spell their fake internet name anyway they like. And if it's Weavers Walk the place that is spelt without an apostrophe as well; to mean many weavers.

That's one aim. Another one is that some exam boards are looking at introducing a TOP, top grading of AA* (single A stars are so 'last year' dahlink....)

What annoys me though is the "it's still a pass....." culture. My kids were never going to launch any rockets, but they were forever being fooled by their teachers that a D or an E result was a pass to be proud of. Sorry kids. I'm old school and those marks aren't really going to get employers licking their lips.... It didn't really give them a sufficient kick up the ar$e when they got those D's E's as they thought "that would be good enough...."

And as you well know, that would still need an apostrophe, but after the 's'. wink.gif

Apparently, "Both the Plain English Society and the Plain Language Commission have said that there is no rule in Britain with regards to possessive apostrophes in place names."

No it wouldn't. You don't need an apostrophe for a pluralisation.

To use an apostrophe or not depends on whether you are describing something that happens (or is happening), if you are describing who owns something, or if it is a name of something.

The "s" in weavers is not possessive it is for pluralisation. For example you don't put "rule's" page's" or "forum's".

In fact here's a quote taken from you r link Jeff...

The marking as plural of written items that are not words established in English orthography (as in P's and Q's, the late 1950's). (This is considered incorrect by some; see Use in forming certain plurals. The use of the apostrophe to form plurals of proper words, as in apple's, banana's, etc., is universally considered incorrect.)
