Rebecca Laighton has her trial date set for February 2012 but will be in court this October to enter her plea.

I am so shocked that it 'could' be this girl - seems so strange that a 27yr old would do something like this. It makes me shudder.

Could a young girl, possible be the Saline murderer....I know it takes all sorts but I just can't imagine it.

I feel for the families of the deceased and this young girls family.

I've not read up on this but surely there is reasonable suspicion if not hard evidence that it would be her. They wouldn't just pluck a nurse out of the air to blame...?

Since there has been no trial, then at the moment this girl is innocent.

I suggest we all leave it there. Otherwise admin's hand will be hovering over the 'delete' button again.

I agree, at the moment she is innocent until proven guilty, but I also agree they wouldn't just pluck her out of thin air for no reason.

I am just shocked that it may be her. She doesn't look like the type of person to do it...(Yes I know no one looks like they can kill and they do!)

Why will they close this, were only having as discussion...

Really?

This may surprise you then. A link to one of the biggest miscarriages of justice of all time.

I'm sure there were plenty of people going around then saying, as you are now, 'they wouldn't have arrested him if he hadn't got something to do with it'

That link does not work....

I know, people are arrested/imprisoned for something they did not do - but it is very rare. Anyway, like I said, I can't believe it could be her.

I'm not sure why you think it couldn't.

Why? She may well be innocent but the CPS must think they have enough 'evidence' to merit a trial and they don't normally try people unless they think they have a good chance of a conviction. I'd hold fire on speculation but human beings are capable of the most heinous acts. Just look at Norway.

And was flagged up by 3 girls, who were brazen liars it transpired, and pled guilty to manslaughter. Mind you, some of the investigation was a bit ripe, even by some of the standards of the day.........

Assuming Wikipedia has the place of official Law Reports now......

Regardless of all that, the fact is that he was sterile, and the fluid found on the body was from someone who wasn't. The prosecution knew this, the investigating officers knew this, but they failed to inform either the defence or the court. Waddington went on to become Home Secretary and when the BBC tracked the officers and prosecution down they said they wouldn't not have got a fair trial if they were prosecuted for witholding evidence. (I'd have sent them down to do the rest of his sentence)

It's called "setting the record straight"

The media did a hatchet job on her and now she has to speak out.

If only the media worked that way. rolleyes.gif

I mean you just have to look at how they portrayed her during the time she was under arrest....

IMHO something needs to be done about the way media reports things. They always take everything in the worst light, make brash and often unfounded accusations or give information which is nothing more than the whimsical thoughts of one of their under educated reporters as fact; and yes, while it's been like that for years, someone needs to step in because more and more, it's the regular, innocent people who end up getting their lifes torn apart, and for what? A few extra quid in newspaper sales?

The day I buy a paper is the day I get nothing but the facts and reasoned discussion from people with a brain.

To be fair, the media only really commented on what she had posted online herself. ASlso she was founf with stolen medicine from the hospital, so let's not have her painted as an angel.

There's only a few things which they used of her online gallery, mainly this picture;

And let's be honest, she's a young lass in her 20's... just because she works as a nurse does not mean she's not allowed to do what most other people seem to do? If you think the things she had posted online are bad, you should see what the girls who I went to school with are doing and they "playboy" shots/videos they post FREELY....

As for stealing medicine, well I've not really seen/heard/researched that but it was deemed she didn't kill those people so...the point remains. ohmy.gif
