Would anyone in the know please tell me what the approximate cost of a taxi journey (2 adults from the rank on a Sunday afternoon with no waiting at lights) measuring 1.8 miles would be?

No less than £8.34 (before resting rates). The same time and journey on a Saturday would be £5.73. So £9.20 would be about right then.

Occasionally I have to go to London on business and I've had to use the Taxi (leaving the car at home) and I've noticed that the Taxi fares have gone up.

Is it? Or are you winding me up? I don't know what they charge at the station but I imagined that they were expensive.

Station Car Park, just over a fiver all day; not that bad in comparison. Bikes are free and other end, 'Boris Bikes' save hassle and cost.

I have to agree, if you have to travel by car it's now cheaper to drive and park at the station. If you are able, bike in or walk in and do the same at the other end or use the tube!!!

If you want a seat (1st class) then it's £90.00 each way to London at peak rate.

Frail old lady? Never seen one on the cattle run that the commute becomes - especially east of Reading. Those 'frail old ladies' have pointy elbows and sharp umbrella.......

It's interesting how we have a thread with references to 1st Class and Standard Class - presumably this is how the rail companies term them?

Don't they think that people will want to travel 2nd Class?

With first great western terminating their contract early, will we have any trains?

That is a commercial 'ploy' to enable them to get a longer tenure now (if selected) so an investment programme can start now and not be wasted by the tenure not being renewed in a couple of years time. They want assurance re return on investment.
