Obviously all thefts are awful, my wife was mugged whilst walking along the towpath whilst visibly pregnant 9 years ago, but don't these cowards have any shame?

As much as this disgusts me, I am not surpised Bill. The worst bit is they wont be caught, no one ever is - and even when they do it doesn't mean they will get locked up (which I think they should be).
It was reported that 2 lads were attacked at Burger King for their wallets last week, no one has been caught for that either.

I do not feel safe in Newbury at the moment, alot of the muggings are taking place in the daytime, and if they can get away with it then, what more can they get away with at night..... angry.gif

I blame Cameron. Its the cuts that are making people do it. (thought I'd beat RG to the punch). In all seriousness this is a major problem in Newbury now. There is a hardcore of mainly white, alcoholic drug addicts that prey on people for money for there fix. You know where most of them live. You only have to read the news to find out where drugs raids have been carried out, where overdoses occur and you see it on the street in the south of Newbury around Bart Street and Pound Street every day. You don't think people on benefits can afford a £100 a day alcohol, fags and drugs habit. Its not rocket science. blink.gif

http://www.police.uk/crime/?q=Newbury, West Berkshire, UK#crimetypes

One month in Newbury (February)

52 Burglaries
98 ASB's
34 Vehicle Crimes
55 Violent Crimes
158 Other Crimes.

The one I'd be most concerned about is the 55 Violent crimes.

If they are 'caught' what will happen to them? A slapped wrist and put back into society. What is for sure is that they won't suffer as much as their victims had done at the scums hands.

That is bull. You can't blame Cameron for people turning to crime. Crime is down to ones own moral judgement. There are a lot of people who have suffered through job loss, recession or whatever, but have never turned to crime. All your comments would achieve is giving the scum an excuse for attacking, stealing or abuse.

I read that... but that didn't mean I had to stick to the script. People might have read our friend as being serious so I thought I might add my two pennies worth and put them straight... just in case they didn't see "In all seriousness..." You know what people from Newbury or surrounding areas can be like? wink.gif

In all seriousness..... it has been a nice day today (weather-wise).

Except your comments did the opposite by promoting the idea he was being serious! huh.gif

Look at the bright side; it gave you something to comment on. However people read threads I am sure that there are more important things in life to worry about; i.e. it is not a hanging offence. You don't have to thank me, just buy me a drink the next time you see me in the pub and I'll know you appreciate my contributions on this forum. wink.gif

Exactly; those that do it have no compassion, empathy or any care towards others. They'll just think that they've got away with it and that will encourage them to do it again.

It all comes down to a credible deterent. If there is not one that the criminals fear then they will continue to prey on the weak, vulnerable and just plain unlucky.

What we need are a few cranes in the Market place where we can 'string em up'

The crime statistics are quite shocking. I am quite new to newbury and I love the town but i think it gets ruined by people like this. My friend and I decided to go for a few drinks in town last weekend but within half hour, we were harrassed and sexually asssaulted. I will never go out in newbury again in the evening because it scared me, I think I will stick to reading in the future. angry.gif

Newbury never used to be like that... it used to be a nice town. Things changed once New Labour got in and gave the low life more leverage. With Newbury getting bigger I can't see things changing. To be fair it is not just Newbury that has got worse.
