I've been trying to get beyond the police propaganda to find out whether the festive drink drive crackdown is the best use of TVP's resources. I found this, which is quite interesting. There's been a 20 year decline in drink driving convictions, but there are still 95,000 a year banned for drink driving and 14,000 killed or injured (including the drink-drivers!). http://www.ias.org.uk/resources/factsheets/drink_driving.pdfHave a read of the facts and post your thoughts.

QUOTE (Iommi @ Dec 10 2010, 10:43 AM) Roughly: 750 ml bottle of 12% wine contains nine units. If we say a unit an hour processing time, and say you are female, then you could say you are cutting it fine. Also, assume a few means 3/5, some doctors would say you are a borderline lush! Which I obviously am!! I think most doctor would say I am a binge drinker! A bottle a night, sometimes followed with a Baileys. EEK!

QUOTE (Iommi @ Dec 10 2010, 11:35 AM) Trouble is, how else are we meant to get to sleep! But yes, the morning after is broader-line for driving. I'd suggest half a bottle a night would be better! Or guzzle lower strength stuff. After a hard days working sometimes it's the only thing to help me relax! Your right, Think I will look into changing it to lower strength, do not want to lose my lisence

A bottle of wine a night is not binge drinking - binge drinkers drink themselves into a stupor from time to time, they may not drink regularly at all. You, on the other hand, are probably in a higher risk category for alcoholism - I guess it all depends how easy it is for you not to have a drink for a week or two.

Binge drinking can be someone who drinks a few times a week. I remember watching This Morning and Phil said he drank wine a couple of times throughout the week and his doctor said he could be classed as a binge drinker because of the units he was consuming. It was very easy for me not to have a drink when I was pregnant - so I can do it for 9 months

QUOTE (Chesapeake @ Dec 10 2010, 12:24 PM) Wow, I'm jealous Rosewinelover. How d you manage it with children? I've recently cut right back on my alcohol intake as I had a very painful incident with my gallbladder and the internet said that alcohol could be a factor. Would love to have a Bailey's a night though as IT IS Christmas time and that dictates that Baileys is a must.....Think I will risk it over the Christmas break when I won't have to do the school run every day! Yes Baileys is a must at Christmas time Once my son is in bed it's nice to relax with a drink (not every night as some might think). Don't always drink the bottle, just one or maybe 2 glasses, then a Baileys to drink whilst doing household chores (need something to pass the boring ironing ) or in bed whilst reading. I wont get a christmas break as I still have to work! My son is at nursery so no holidays for him either!
