No point having and not using when a frost is forecast, especially when the roads are wet.

I watched the forecast earlier and it looks like it will be bad.

Snow won't be the reason it's cancelled. It will be the frost not coming out of the ground. 50/50 at best I'd say for you tomorrow. sad.gif

Going that is too hard leads to horses being shot....

If the ground is too hard, the horses cannot grip the ground properly, usually resulting in a bad fall. If the injury is severe, the horse is put down by the vet, using a bolt gun.

Thanks, I understand that happens, I just didn't get the sentence. I am reading it over and over again and I still don't get it! 'Going that is too hard...' Nope. Still not! Nevermind.

Ahh. I think I understand you miscombobulations...

"Going" in this context describes the condition of the course. Other terms are firm, soft, heavy.

Going – Depicts the state of the ground on the racetrack on any given day. The track conditions can be described as follows and are listed in the order of increasing moisture within the ground: Hard, Firm, Good to Firm, Good, Good to Soft, Soft, Heavy.

If the frost kicks in around Newbury and sticks (and if it even gets through the frost covers they're putting out every night) then the 'going' could be Hard. If that happens you might get a fair number of horses withdrawing from the race as their delicate little thoroughbred legs might snap...
