I have discovered 5 copies of Steam Railway magazine from March to July 1992, plus Waterloo Sunset, about the 25th anniversary of the end of Southern steam.

Knowing that there are a number of steam railway enthusiasts on this forum, I thought I would offer these magazines rather than throw them out.

The current one is dated May 22, which is hardly up-to-date, although I have seen them more recent than 4 weeks old. I phoned the paper on Friday and enquired, but (unsurprisingly) the person I spoke to didn't know and couldn't find anyone who did.

On 16th June this year local members of the Campaign for Real Ale will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Newbury branch. We are anxious to get in touch with some of the members who were active at that time but with whom we have lost contact, namely Adrian Adams, David Wright, Chris McGrath, Glyn Davis, Andy Smith, Denis Maynard, Mary and Denis Bradbury, Paul Hancock, Roger Shelton, Jackie Cragg, Martin Dennison, Bob Buxey, Mike Pritchard, Mike Swanborough, Geoff Forbes, Richard Smith and Denis Picot.

The A338 between junction 14 of the M4 and Wantage is closed at Great Shefford because of flooding.

The road from Great Shefford to Lambourn is closed at Eastbury. To get to Lambourn from the M4 use the B4000 via Lambourn Woodlands.

I spoke to him the other day, and the problem has been with hacking, with certain people's posts being deleted, etc. Hardly an excuse.

He is proposing to change the software used, and then set it up again.

I am glad, because I preferred it to this one.

The Tally Ho, Hungerford Newtown, Berkshire RG17 0PP, re-opens on Friday 8th November at 6.30 pm

This was a good local pub until it was closed by the owners, Wadworth, nearly 2 years ago and sold to a property development company. A community action group campaigned to get the planning application for housing rejected, then raised money to buy the pub and renovate it.

If you are within striking distance of Hungerford, come along and support this venture. Hungerford Newtown is about half a mile south of M4 junction 14 on the A338.

There are no other facilities in Hungerford Newtown - no shop, no village hall, no school. So it was contributing to the community as the only social centre.

A typical example of nonsense due to lack of knowledge of the situation.

The couple who were running the pub until January were doing so well that they entered into negotiations with the owners, Wadworths, to buy the business.

Instead Wadworths chose to sell the pub to a property developer who promptly closed it and applied for planning permission to turn it into houses.

There is a working group with a business plan to purchase the pub and re-open it. Already there are enough promises from potential investors for half the required cost. The petition on the campaign's website - http://www.savethetally.org.uk/ - now has nearly 250 signatures. The campaign is supported by local MP Richard Benyon and by CAMRA.
