I went and I thought they were quite good.

Aside from the kids with a green laser pointer who kept pointing it at people, and only stopped when I turned round and said "if you shine that at me again i will snap it and shove one end up your bumhole".

The £5 it cost to get in (well my friend paid for me but hey) was well worth the 20 minute + display. I recorded the whole thing on my iPhone in HD (yes I'm up with technology) and it'll be on Youtube when I can be bothered to upload it.

If anyone else went, what were your thoughts?

Watched it from a bedroom window, the one in the west wing gives the best views.

Went to Chieveley.
Brilliant display and good value at £12 per carload.
Only criticism was that we were roped off 50M from the bonfire.
H&S regulations these days I suppose?

Reasoned argument is always the best, isn't it?

It did. Unfortunately my video recording started after I said that but nevertheless it did happen. Unlike most people have no problem intimidating people of a younger age.

My literal words might have been "If you do that again I'll shove it up your ****" but words to that effect were definitely used.

I thought the Racecourse fireworks were pretty poor.

I was annoyed that they delayed the fireworks to enable the latecomers to get through the gates. Then the queues for the food/drink were stupidly long. The fireworks themselves were not properly timed to the music, and got really repetitive when they launch six of the same rocket in a row. Plus the HeartFM guy was very annoying.

On the whole I was really disappointed and think we'll go elsewhere next year.

I have volunteered at The racecourse for many years but didn't this year as I didn't think the last two were very good. Same complaint as Alice really, especially about the delays, when you've been outside directing traffic and setting up for three hours already it get's rather cold.

Also there's no bonfire and no stalls. I went to one in Yorkshire which was cheaper and way better.

No spare time for fireworks? Can't spare the 20+ mins a standard show demands? Why not go to the Oban Firework display.... £6,000 of whizz-bangs went up in a puff of smoke within 50 seconds....
Fireworks for the time conscious

You'd be gutted if you turned up a minute late for that one......

We chose this venue this year as, with risk of rain, we knew there was undercover seating. I thought the adult ticket price (£4) reasonable but the organisation of the event poor. Not enough food/drink outlets and the exiting arrangements were particularly ill thought out.

There isn't much choice when it comes to access at the racecourse. Just think what it will be like with 1,500 houses up there.

We watched the various fireworks from the vantage point of Donnington Castle (with my camera, a mug of soup and a sausage roll smile.gif), and the display launched from near the Carnarvon Arms (at a rough guess) was considerably better than the racecourse display.

Not a complaint, as we did not contribute to either display, but I was expecting a more impressive display from the racecourse - having worked on firework displays in the past, I did not think highly of it at all!

Although, of course, if everyone did as we did, it would not be possible to fund any fireworks displays, since they're so expensive...

[In terms of the laser pointer story, I would be a little surprised if a laser point shone from behind someone - given that the OP needed to turn round to rebuke the alleged miscreant - was causing that person a nuisance, or was even noticeable!]

I didn't properly see as I sorted of yelled at them from 10 ft away in the dark, looked to be in a gaggle of 3 or so, they had jackets and what not, think they had caps/beanies as well.

Did you yell at them as well? laugh.gif
