Newbury Today Forum _ Newbury News _ BNP and UKIP flyers. re Upcoming Euro Elections.

I have received glossy leaflets through my letterbox from both of the above this week, but nothing from the 3 main parties.

Surely they are not being complacent in the current political climate are they?

Well the reason for that is that the 3 main parties are not interested in your view on the EU. They have drank the 'Koolaid' and bought into the program. They want the federalisation of europe to go ahead and to campaign would raise too much awareness of what is at risk. If people don't vote then they get what they want.

If we are concerned at the MP's expenses scandal then have a look at what is happening in the EU Commission. Corruption and fraud are rife. Marta Andreasen, as profiled in todays Newbury Today, tried to clean up their act and was sacked. I bought her book on Monday and have almost finished it. I found it truly frightening that we are walking into a situation where Westminster is reduced to nothing more than a ceremonial and procedural instrument, a glorified parish council, where ALL of our laws will be made in the EU by unelected, corrupt bureaucrats and we will never have the ability to vote them out. http://forum.newburytoday.co.uk/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif

Maybe they realise with all the bad publicity they've had that the game is up. wink.gif

Any communication from either of those "parties" goes directly into the shredder.

Well I don't have a shredder Pete, but will my recycling box do.

Thought that went without saying, especially BNP.

My vote goes to the recycling box. They won't take shredded paper for recycling, so you might as well help these parties contribute to society in some way.

Just seen The Green Party in a very handsome ex London Transport Routemaster parked up in the market. Runs on bio-fuel and certainly an eye catching 'flyer'. Mind you, not sure bio-fuel is as quite as green as it's made out to be...

I'll have to go UKIP on this. The other parties are the ones that have got us here and while it isn't all bad in Europe, it certainly isn't a good example to me of democracy.

It was the tories and labour who got us into the E.U and did,nt think we were intellegent enought to be able to have a opinion, hence no vote on the referendum, or am I being a tad cynical to think they may have seen another gravy train coming in to the station they at some time in the future could hop on , just like the Kinnocks. yes its got to be U.K.I.P to at least show our contempt for that.

Posted by: Bobfm May 21 2009, 12:08 PM

You will be in good company, millions will vote for UKIP. The party is the only one who really believes in a free Britain and is an inclusive party. I received my Tory leaflet today and frankly it's more of the usual drivel about how they have helped Britain through the EU. They simply ignore the fact that 55% of Britain's want out of the EU. They also just compare themselves with the other two main parties and no mention of any others. A serious error of judgement by a Blair wannabee leader.

I think it is very bad in Europe, however, I do agree with you about UKip.

Good God. They're as bad as Labour and Tory MP's!! I'll still be voting UKIP though. UKIP watch are missing the point. There is NO other party, apart from the odious BNP, working in Britains favor. Only UKIP will have a chance to force a referendum and they still remain the only party who speak against the EU.

Well, I don't know how others got this link to work. I got:
QUOTE
Forbidden
Remote Host: [xx.xx.xx.xx (my IP address)]

You do not have permission to access http://ukipwatch.org/What%20became%20of%20the%20UKIP%20twelve.pdf

Data files must be stored on the same site they are linked from.

Edit: Got the same thing trying with Internet Explorer. But pasting the link straight into Firefox's address bar worked. Weird.

For internet explorer try replacing each "%20" with a space ie "http://ukipwatch.org/What became of the UKIP twelve.pdf"

Posted by: GMR May 25 2009, 09:57 AM

Mine did the same and showing my IP address. Something strange going on.

If you're an expert on how HTTP requests work, then I defer to you. But it was always my understanding that spaces or other special characters are converted to their hex equivalent when the request is sent to the server.

Clicking on your link doesn't work for me (notice what has happened to your URL - I put in an extra space so you can see it), either in Firefox or Internet Explorer, but pasting directly into the address bar does.

This is odd, because it seems to work for other people rolleyes.gif

Your right my link didn't work, but does when cutting and pasting directly to IE address!!!! Most bizarre, but I'm not going to fret over it any more mellow.gif

After i went on the site I started getting a load of emails with my ISP number on it. Saying that I've been marked for entering a restricted area.

On a completely different note, who else noticed that the 'workmen' on the BNP leaflet had extremely clean clothing, particularly the reflective jackets? Don't think I've ever seen builders that clean before! Is this the shape of things to come.......!

Posted by: JeffG May 29 2009, 12:41 PM

Going right back to the original post, my experience has been completely the opposite. I've had communications from the Lib Dems and the Conservatives, but nothing from UKIP or the BNP. Which is just as well!

I've had nothing from the major parties, but I have had some stuff through the post from UKip.

Bill1, the count is not until Sunday because other countries vote on different days (many have their elections on Sundays).

It is for the European Parliamentary elections. It will be held West Berkshire Council offices, Market street, Newbury. it is between 6 pm and 9 pm on Sunday. Even though the election is on the 4th June (tomorrow or today, depending when you read this) because it is European all European countries have to hold the count on the same day, same time.

I see thanks GMR.

Obviously I was wondering because usually election counts are done on the night, but I can understand why an EU wide one would take longer.

I've just done the honourable thing and voted. Personally I think Labour will suffer and maybe the smaller parties will do well. I am not sure what will happen to the conservatives or liberals.... it will be interesting to see.

Yeah I've just voted too. Polling station was very queit, maybe more will vote before or after work.

They reckon that not many people will turn out to vote.... but we will see.

People who dont vote have no right to complain about the outcome of elections I feel.

I do understand that some people who usually do won't this time as a protest but surely that risks letting certain "minority" (I think you know who I'm referring to) have more exposure at least and power at worst.

I've been to Reading today and the amount of people who have said that they've voted for the BNP. I've even spoken to people in Newbury who have voted for the BNP. To be honest I don't think most of them really understand what the BNP stand for.

Telling people that they 'can't' vote for a party (as a lot of politicians have) is undemocratic. I think that is one of the reasons they will get so many votes.

Posted by: JeffG Jun 5 2009, 06:28 PM

Perhaps there should be some sort of IQ test that people have to pass before being allowed to vote.

It's all been going downhill since they allowed people who didn't own country estates to vote... smile.gif

If you started an IQ test to see who is competent to vote you'll cut down the people who can vote to a quarter of the population (even that could be an over estimation laugh.gif )

I might be way out on this, but isn't voting compulsory in Oz? If that were the case here, the majority would always have to be heard. You all know the saying 'For evil to succeed, it only requires....'
