If unelected (again) Gordon Brown cosies up to the Lib Dems and forms a 'coalition' then we should all go to the Houses of Parliament and burn it down!

Why? The Lib Dems and Labour got 4 million votes more then the Tories.

I just wished that Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland would be completly removed from Parliament. They should be allowed to form own governments and pay for themselves through there own means of taxation.

ENGLAND has voted for the Conservatives (not me mind) and ENGLAND should have a Conservative Government. Any other form of Lib/Lab/Green/Loon pact would be an injustice to this Country.

Quite right. The Conservatives got the most seats and the most votes so they should be asked to form the Government.

This is what Nick Clegg said as well. At the moment any Lab/Lib is in Browns head

If the tories just formed a government now, they would struggle to do the job as they would be outvoted all the time.

Only because the voting system doesn't allow it.

Yeah, but they do employ the best stunt pilots though. There again, perhaps not. laugh.gif

("blackdog, specialised subject, the bleedin' obvious!") ...but it's a bleedin' big only, eh? wink.gif

The thing is with PR, it isn't guaranteed to work as a better solution than FPTP. What if you don't want a second choice. What is you only want one party and no-one else? Notwithstanding that for some, trying to understand things like STV, would be next to impossible. I know some people that have had trouble putting a cross in a box - unintentionally voting for the wrong person! I've heard of people that can't read a multitude of signs and have driven into rising bollards!

People!

Well that's because we've got a good system. If we allowed second and third place parties to form a government then what would be the point in voting for (in your opinion) the best candidate?

It would be a minority Government that could be defeated by Labour and the Lib Dems who could vote against anything it tried to make law.

The Government doesn't always have to consist of one party, and hasn't many times in the past.

I know I might be considered as niave to think that a co-allition could work, but let's be honest, a single party goverment hasn't worked for many years now...infact, if one had ever been perfect, we'd never have voted them out, would we?!

I can’t see the Lib Dem’s joining up to the labour party. One; they lost the election and two; both labour and the LD’s got reduced votes. If Clegg tried to keep them in power and months down the line there was an election it will look bad for Clegg; can he afford that? No. Clegg’s only option is to make some sort of deal with the Tories. If that fails then the only option would be to call another election. Brown is a failed leader, where the public have lost confidence in him.

As for PR; the public don’t want that either. Clegg said he wanted and he got reduced votes... that avenue must be a dead one.

That is a stupid statement as people voted for them separately. You could say the same if you put the Tories vote's with the LD's.

Not necessarily. It depends if the other parties agreed with what the Tories tried to put through.

Doesn't the fact that Labour and Lib Dem seats combined would still be a minority make any statement by Brown on the subject a moot point?

Or is Brown lining up other parties to join in his collective of runners-up?

I think the only thing that is workable at this point is a Con/LD coalition and that we will likely have another election before the 5 years is up. Maybe even 2 years is all it will take (sooner if nothing is carried).

They would have a combined majority.....258+57=315

Conservative 306
Labour 258
Liberal Democrat 57
Scottish National Party 6
Plaid Cymru 3
Others 19
(1 result to come)

I think 326 seats is required for a majority.
