You need clarity to define a war zone? Ok, it's not Market Place on a Friday night.

Mexico is 5th on the list in 2015. Does that mean you think we should welcome Mexican "refugees" as they are no longer welcome in the USA?

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ Nov 15 2016, 07:57 AM) *
"They are refugees when they leave a war zone for Europe - but if they move from one EU country to another because there is a better chance of finding work or a prosperous future more generally, surely they have become economic migrants, too?
And if they become economic migrants when they move from Greece to Germany, are they not also economic migrants when they move from countries like Turkey or Jordan, where they are safe even if living in difficult conditions, to Europe?"

So they flee a war zone, but because they move from one country to another they are no longer refugees? That's frankly idiotic and the politest description would be uncharitable.

Not unless they are useful to the UK.

Note Syria and Afghanistan were't on the list in 2010.

Why stop Mexicans unless they are "useful" to the UK? They have just as much right to come from war ravaged countries as any other. Or do only certain Countries qualify? And not just those on the list.

My point is WHO decides. Is it you? You seem to represent the people that have got us to the point where Donald Trump wins because anyone who disagrees has an "agenda" and is akin to Adolf Hitler. Lost the plot the lot of you. Thats why Hungary and Austria are going to have facist leaders and le pen will most likely come very close. The Left and Liberals nees to dial down the mantra that anyone worried about POPULATION growth has a white pointy hat and three slaves picking cotton in the garden. Believe it or not people STILL want to come to this Country because we are more often than not simply nice.

I think the main reasons are not due to leftist slagging off fascists, I think it is many things: austerity, terrorists, anarchy in the Middle East, Facebook et al., careless and arrogant politicians (which we encourage), the housing FUBAR, lower end wage stagnation, I think these are higher up the list.

You miss my point. They are not slagging off JUST fascists and racists. Ita a bit like saying anyone left of centre is akin to Joseph Stalin. One of the biggest murderers of all time. People have flavours of left and right. Anything slightly righter than a Lib Dem is morally corrupt, plain racist, facist and scum.

I don't think I missed your point, I just don't agree. I don't think Trump and Brexit are the result of people being called names, I think it was more to do with the things I listed. I'll add fear of Islam as another reason.

We'll agree to disagree then. Shame not all can do the same.👍

I know I posted this before but it really strikes a chord. I also realise he is a comedian before anyone says and that this may be ironic..

I think you are right though in that you won't change minds by browbeating. People will just shut-up, perhaps with even more determination.

Exactly my point. You also have some good points. Its probably a blend of all...Politics and views are polarised. Normally ends in tears, unless people can respect each others views, whether they like them or not. The other choice is the end..... of literally everything.😣

And you believe that? People read and listen to what they want to hear. You probably read the Guardian. Not many come on to forums like this and chew the fat. "Fake News" is something the BBC pedal every day anyway!😅

It's not the mechanisim, more the content. It's not the lies either, more the distortion.

Put it this way, describing 17 year old people may be legally accurate but is a distortion when applied to drum up emotion.

This propaganda technique has always been with us, but as the referendum and the presidential campaigns have shown us, it's now endemic even with those claiming to be disinterested.
