Can anyone recommend a reliable washing machine repair company/person? Ours stops frequently mid-cycle: it gets to the end eventually but only after the start button has been pushed 5 or 6 times. Am loathe to buy a new one as it seems a fairly minor fault but I've cleared the filter and changed the brushes on the motor (two possible causes, according to the internet) to no avail.

Have you made sure the outlet hose hasn't got a kink in it or is blocked?

Happened to me once - was miffed that I had to fork out a call out charge for something that was so simple to fix (despite the engineer generously reducing his minimum charge).

Many thanks both.

I suspect the outlet hose is problem, Monty, but I can't figure out how to remove it without digging into the bowels of the machine. Replacing the brushes was about my limit.

Mine was just kinked where I had pushed it to close to the wall! Had I pulled it away from the wall it would have worked OK. But I was a naive 23 year old at the time I thought there would be no chance of me fixing it so didn't even have a look! angry.gif

Usual reason for a machine stopping mid cycle is the water not pumping out. It can't spin if the level is too high. Possibly the pump. If it's a newish machine, the pump is normally twist and lock so it takes about 10 minutes to replace. Spares are usually available. If it was originally in Noah's laundry then probably not so easy.

You may find it is the heating element.
The machine is waiting for the water to warm to the correct temperature which never happens if the element has failed so you have to prompt it on manually.
Just a thought. Worth checking. smile.gif

Are there any lights flashing to indicate a fault code?

While we're on the subject of repairing things, can anyone recommend someone who does double glazing repairs?
Not a big job, just renewing some panes that have "blown".

If I remember rightly the guy with this franchise is called Simon and he came round and gave some great advice and repaired a few of the panes that were no longer airtight, so often suffered from condensation between the double glazed panes. Quick and good service and saved on the expense of replacing the whole window (which was never going to happen despite my wife's pleas...)

It only has one light and that flashes when it stops: most of the online advice for the model suggests the most likely cause is a blockage in the outlet pipe but many thanks for this and the other suggestions.
