Isn't it ridiculous that this couple can repeatedly rob garages and when caught spin a hard luck yarn and get let off to go and do it all over again.
What on eath is happening to justice in this country, these people are theives and should be punished.

Odd how thieving scum always walk away yet if a little old lady defaults on her council tax the full weight f the law swings into action and lo and behold ! we can manage to find space in our jails system to lock her up. Great isn't it?

You just know that these two will end up in court again simply because they have no fear of the consequences of their actions. For some unknown reason they are allowed to get away with it and until the law comes down on them hard they will continue to steal.
It just makes no sense to me.

The problem is that when you have no fear of punishment you wll simply keep offending, I mean, Why not ? In a society that punishes people who overfill their wheely bins more harshly than shoplifters why should career criminals stop.

Entirely agree. The law is there to protect individuals and organisations against crime and yet niave judges continually allow criminals to re-offend because of their lenient sentencing. There is a considerable amount of time, effort and public money being used to fetch these criminals to court and it is all for nothing. This has got to change.

Its Policing gone mad ! if the Police are so stretched why don't we lock up the offenders rather than wasting the police's and the courts time with persistent criminal activity.

I know nothing of the couple's situation, though it's rather odd to repeatedly drive off when everyone knows the CCTV will pick up your plates, and lead the police right to your door.

Perhaps there's more to this than meets the eye.

There is little or no checking of the contents of a mitigation speech.

a) there isn't time - as it is not part of the defence, but a preliminary to a sentence following a guilty verdict;
b ) the offender has very little to say; it is delivered by the offender's solicitor who as an officer of the Court is expected not to mislead the Court.
