We got to talking about a flag for Berkshire in another thread so I thought I start a thread just for that discussion.

None of Berkshire, West Berkshire, nor Newbury have official flags as recognised by the Flag Institute. Do you think it would be nice if we did? Some counties are very proud of their flags, like Cornwall for instance, so why shouldn't we have a flag?

These are some of the candidates for a Berkshire flag. What do you think? SHould we press for an official flag, and which one would you prefer? Fancy designing one? And what about a flag for Newbury?

David Ford Nash design

Michael Garber design

The two lions passant has some heritage, and is maybe more applicable to West Berkshire as the white stag is very much a symbol of Herne the Hunter and the royal forest of East Berkshire. I guess it's kind of sad but the county of Berkshire has very little significance now.

The thing is, Berkshire has been hacked about; remember the 'Berkshire Boot'? A West Berkshire flag would be interesting, which is more or less the same thing as the constituency of Newbury.

I think a Newbury flag should have recognition for the battles.

Cornwall is a separate country to the south-west of England and has its own language, as well as the flag of St Piran. tongue.gif

I propose this in recognition of the work done by the local councils.

(It's a Cornish mindset, as much as anything.)

You should see the fences around the new "Academy". Even Steve McQween would have a hard time.
