Breaking news.

An investigation into why up to 40 West Berkshire councillors have been switched off for months has started.

The covert trial was meant to save taxpayers up to £500,000 a year by secretly transferring democracy to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. But council leader Graham Jones pulled the plug after several senior representatives started making rambling statements to the media.

Council spokesman Phil Space said: "We wanted to make council meetings shorter, but without alarming the public. But the telemetry malfunctioned due to bad weather, and several members started telling porkies to anyone who'd listen."

The investigation will determine whether anyone noticed the absence of their representative fighting their corner, why it took longer than expected for Windsor & Maidenhead to disconnect up to 20 councillors, and how many threads on the Newbury Today forum were created as a result.

Newbury Labour Party's DJ Richard 'RG Bhaji' Garvie said: "I knew there was something fishy at the last meeting when I saw WBC's chief exec hiding behind a desk and waving a councillors arms about in animated fashion."

It's thought the 40 councillors may have been switched off since just before Victoria Park started sinking.

Speaking from Cllr Jones' knee, Cllr Stansfield said: "Gottle of Guinness"

Oh no, he's going to be calling for a review of the review, isn't he?

Expect sixteen threads all saying the same thing by Friday.

Here we go, try and push it back on me!!! I was informed by David Lowe NWNREADER, head of scrutiny I believe? I won't be calling for a review of the review, but it just proves that it isn't a priority for the administration, and now they can bury the results after the local election. Democracy in action!!!

officer responsible for guiding the scrutiny panel I believe, so he will be facilitating the CCTV review, although it will be carried out by members.

Purdah may mean the business of the review cannot be done in time, but it is most 'unfortunate'.
Voters would be unhappy to find they had been had over by either side of the debate......

As it is they that have and are helping with the information vacuum, I say let's find them guilty anyway!

Meanwhile; the NTC review committee bump into a group of NewburyToday allotmenteers who believe they have found a forum miscreant...

Had over by the same people who will want to obtain our votes? wink.gif

Absolutely unbelievable? You would be ashamed of these antics in a third world country let alone in Newbury?

That is the problem with Purdah - while giving a period of 'no point scoring' it can also be used as a bat to swipe aside any problem issue (if there is one).

Being not ar$ed to copy and paste 'David Lowe' and type 'Newbury' into a Google search (the link is the second on the returned list) is some quality laziness (and a lot easier than typing your question to RG)! wink.gif

Got this 'thing' through my door today. Some may call it 'news', some may call it relevant. I personally call it neither of the above!!

It's called the 'West Berkshire Observer' and is published by the (cough) LibDems, apparently at 'no cost to the tax payer'. Now that'll be a first......

Anyways, back to the reason for my post.

Front page, rhs, top just under the banner.

"CCTV inquest thanks to Lib Dems".

Now much as I may disagree with the Garviemonster and/or his ideals and policies I heard EXTREMELY little from the LD's about the CCTV failings but a he'll of a lot from RG and other forum members.

Are the LD's stretching the truth somewhat in their new publication??!

Wasn't it the Lib Dems that instigated the review?

Given there are only two parties elected to the council it must be them or the Tories.
