I was labouring under the impression that women are generally at their happiest when imposing discontent on their male counterparts .

Presumably its because the sponsor, the BBC, like other public services is very short of money.

It's a public service, so they have to spend it; what else could they do?

The data they used was quite random, things like number of cinema visits, library use as well as the things mentioned. I think the real trouble is that people take these polls seriously which then lets people like President Trump complain about fake news.
