Today.. well, yesterday, I went to Alton to see a friend.
Drove down the A339 had a perfectly happy time.

On the way back around 4:30pm there were some seriously strong winds blowing my car every which way.
As I got closer towards Basingstoke (again on the A339) there were whole trees which had appeared to have been blown over, causing sections of the road to be impassible in one direction... lots of debris in the road.

As I got through Basingstoke and continued back towards Newbury, the Roundabout near Nelsons Diner (where the BP Used to be) was shut off and a Police Car was blocking the road, I was unable to get through... No idea as to why.

Anyone shed any light?

A £20k house blown over? rolleyes.gif

The wind at about that time was incredible in central London.
There was Doner und Blitzen (I use doner in homage to many such local outlets).
The rain was horizontal for about 20 minutes. It is duff this morning too.

It had been a lovely afternoon and I had walked the canal towpath. There are also liveaboards moored up here.
I bet they are feeling a bit damp and chilly today.

I'd just spent a few hours cleaning the family cars. Then in came this swirl of storm force winds from every direction picking up dirt, rubbish bins, a couple of the neighbour's tiles on his roof, rattled my shed and then throwing it down with hail as well as heavy rain.

It blew through quickly but was very strong.

And the cars could do with a clean again.... sad.gif

According to UKIP the bad weather is caused by gays - good to hear UKIP endorsing anthropogenic climate change.

Crikey Simon K. I had already forgotten about that.
Slightly worse than my stupid gag about a shed!

Off topic is where I like to roam of course. The comment seemed to die quite quickly.
Probably along the lines of they are all bonkers anyway"Tell me something new".

I would think that unless you were living in "Restoration England"
such views would not cross any sane mind.

Not exactly a balanced quote is it Simon!

The article doesn't say anywhere that it is a UKIP view, in fact it quotes UKIP as NOT agreeing with his words, but rather saying he has the right to say them.
As in this article too, but more comprehensive.

You could just as well say ' Bespectacled councillor with large mole on left cheek blames gays for bad weather' dry.gif

I wasn't going for balance, I was ridiculing UKIP for the bigotry of the people it attracts. That's not to say that everyone who supports UKIP is a bigot, or that all bigots support UKIP, or even that UKIP endorses this particular flavour of medieval theistic homophobic bigotry which, let's face it, is not even mainstream with theistic homophobic bigots, but it remains that UKIP is a dangerous hate-mongering party of the reactionary right, and it's gaining an awful lot of support.

Oh dear, how wrong can some people be?? And its gaining support cos lots of people are capable of looking at what's being said and done by the other parties and realise it simply aint good enough. If it's so bad why are the main stream parties pooping in their pants trying to look tough on immigration whenever Farage speaks?

Granted it does attract a fair amount of uber right wing nutcases but then so does every other party, Nazi uniforms at parties ring a bell? This kind of mindless vilifying hardly helps the democratic process.

You'll find nutcases in all walks of life of course, but UKIP has moved the xenophobic nationalist agenda to a whole new level of mainstream credibility and has empowered a generation to unleash their inner Bernard Manning. I don't see it ending well.

Completely agree. Our open society is one the things which makes me proud to be British. They are out to destroy it. And the fear, doubt and hatred they inflame and spread is truly poisonous.

I see UKIP as simply a manifestation of a part of being human. We are tribal and this is a part of it.

This ain't UKIP's fault, it is a failure of leaders to manage the issue properly.

I see no reason to be concerned about UKIP... yet.

What I think we do need to look at as to what we do about a society that depends on growth. It can't go on forever.

That does nothing to reassure me.

Maybe UKIP won't become a dominant political force in their own right, but they drag the political debate dangerously rightwards as the main parties pander to the xenophobia. It's easy enough to mock the ecstatic meteorological dribbling of the odd baptist nutjob, but all the same UKIP are putting hate at the centre of the political agenda, and hate is such a powerfully destructive driver.

I don't see hate, I see resentment from the working/benefit class that have seen their lot devalued by the policy of importing cheap labour. All along, an issue exacerbated by the price and availability of housing.

Agree with that too. Got a bit carried away with my earlier post. We certainly need to take a good look at ourselves - politics in this country is becoming terribly divisive, which is ironic given that the 3 main parties have policies which are so similar. (Perhaps that's why it's so divisive - instead of attacking each others' policies, they attack each other.)

Even tax hating Cameron (see his blabbering today) knows that without taxes the country wouldn't function. He can't have it both ways. What an utter feckwit. Sorry, I'm getting carried away again.

Anyway, I agree. This weather is absolutely terrible, isn't it?

Technically you are right, it has gone way off topic; however, the OP was a question which was answered early. 'Evil' Simon subverted the thread to meet his own political agenda, and he would have got away with it, if it wasn't for you pesky pedants! tongue.gif
