When I was in Northbrook Street yesterday there were a couple of buskers outside Boots who were quite brilliant. They were young guys; one with a trumpet and clarinet and the other with a piano accordion. No recorded accompaniment, either.

I have never heard street musicians who were so good, and I felt that it was a pity that young men with so much talent had to make a living busking. At the very least some enterprising local pub should sign them up for some gigs.

I'm happy to say that I saw more people putting money in their pot than is usual in these circumstances.

Perhaps they make more money busking? Maybe they need an agent who has local contacts and is willing to take 20% Brewmaster...

Some buskers have day jobs and busk for fun at weekends. The pocket money it provides is an added bonus.

There was a busker this afternoon in the highstreet murdering Sympathy for the Devil.

I have family in Chester and the music school students busk in the town, and boy are they good.

I used to make £40-£70 a day busking (tax-free!) vs £40-£50 for staying sober all evening to play a pub gig. Brewmaster's right, but the publicans of Newbury have no love of music, just money.

I thought that as well. I even thought of doing it myself, until it was pointed out to me that the whole point was to attract the visitors not repel them. At least my style would have been unique; i can't sing, can't play an instrument and can't do anything that one would call entertainment to attract.... no, I am not Robbie Williams or an X-Factor hopeful. laugh.gif wink.gif

Thank you. I've already ordered a thousand boxes. If you see some lunatic one cold winters day standing outside Wilkinsons playing with his balloons just pop over and say hello; everything I achieve from then onwards I'll owe to you. You'll always be in my thoughts cool.gif
