If GMR wants to take a photo of a really confusing set of lights, they are on the pedestrian crossing as you exit the Robin Hood on to the B4009. First there is a post showing a green light if the crossing is not in use, and immediately after that is another post showing a red light.

I hadn't noticed the lights on the right (probably because they are not pointing towards the northbound traffic) - doubly confusing! My comment was about the two sets of lights on the left going north. The first is green and the second red.

I think the contractors must have screwed up somewhat.

Thanks to GMR for taking up the commission so promptly! cool.gif

The reason for the extra lights is because a cycle lane crosses the road, so they have bike symbols on them, instead of a person, or just a light.

I am a cyclist and I didn't even know that. So obviously they serve their purpose. laugh.gif blink.gif

Well, if the extra lights are for a cycle crossing, why aren't the lenses masked with cycle-shaped cutouts like other traffic lights for cycles?

Something like this would be less confusing:

They do have cycle-shaped cut-outs. You just have to look at them & you will see them

Then why do I see a big round red light (which as a car driver, is intended for me), and not a red bicycle?

Admittedly my pic was a German one (did you recognise the middle ones as tram signals?), but it shows what a normal cycle traffic light looks like.

Why waste money on lights for cyclists - they never bother to obey them.

Most of them do; granted there are a lot who don't. On that subject; I was waiting at the lights - on my bike - in town when a young cyclist cycled past me and went through. Most of the cyclist who don't respect traffic lights are young kids who have never been taught the rights and wrongs. Not all cyclists should be grouped with them.

I disagree, from what I have seen I would say most cyclists don't.

Again, MOST, not all.

Do all pedestrian comply with the light on a crossing? No.

Not confusing at all. From left to right.

Car traffic. Can only turn right on green arrow
Tram/buses turning left
Tram/buses turning right
Cyclist going ahead
Cyclist turning right.

Not all car drivers are good car drivers and follow the rules. I would say most of the cyclists are good cyclists.

True; luckily every group isn't totally good otherwise we would have nothing to write about. laugh.gif

Back to this issue, that's because the red on is just red & the amber & green have cycle shapes
