As a resident of Market Place, Newbury, I have had to put up with quite alot of changes in recent years, most of them set to cause my life a misery. My bedroom window faces The Arcade so now pubs are open longer, I get less and less sleep with drunks / idiots arguing, fighting, shouting, being sick, urinating, faunicating down the alley at stupid o'clock in the morning.
WBC then pedestrianised Market Place and put "No Waiting at any time" signs up to prevent myself and other residents from moving items from our vehicles to our properties without getting a parking ticket.
But now I finally have the chance to move to a different location and get out of this god forsaken ****-hole, I am being informed that removals in Market Place can only take place between the hours of 6pm through to 10am whilst the barriers are down, and only if I pre-provide the Wardens a vehicle registration number of the vehicle that is moving me.
So this means that if I wish to hire a removal company I will need to pay extra for unsociable hours. I have also been informed that it is recomended that I don't attempt to move on a market day, but with the normal market twice a week, and all the Farmers Markets and French / Italian / German and indeed any other country that wishes to sell their fine wares to the public of Newbury, the days available to me are now very limited.
I have put up with alot, but I don't want much in return, I just want to move!!!

Maybe it is their ploy to make sure you don’t move. Maybe they realise that if you move no other mug will move into your place and suffer like you have done. Of course the easiest option is if the council actually cared for its citizens, instead of thinking always about profits.

If anybody is reading this the welcome to Newbury in the 21st century.

Welcome to Newbury. Home to a new breed of scum. They don't work. They are Anti-Social and threatening. They ALL have pit bull type dogs and you are not allowed to look at them when walking down the street or you'll get hassle. They nick beer / are always drinking in the street on there more often than not stolen bikes. They get their drugs from any of the many drug dens in the area. Thet get free housing. They get benefits. They make money selling drugs. They make money burgaling and selling stolen goods. You pay for them and you can't even move cos the powers that be only want to persecute working council paying law abiding people. They don't want to bother the scum.

The flat that I live in is lovely and spacious, it's just it's location. I have been stuck there for five and a half years. If I could re-position the flat to a different location it would be lovely. My experience of living in Newbury for the last ten years has unfortuantly made me want to leave.

Hopefully in the next month or so, I will be moving (if I can get a time slot for loading / unloading) so Theale here I come!

I don't blame you in the slightest. Most people would not want to live anywhere near the town centre. Good luck with the move.

I don't wish to worry you, but Theale is not immune from yobs and yobbish behaviour either.

Hi Macent.
You should e-mail Richard Benyon and Nick Carter of the Council and let them know your concerns about living in town and having to put up with the ASB that you say has gone on.
They don't believe or don't want to believe that this sort of behaviour is happening in Newbury and the more complaints made will help go to solving the problem.

I hope Theale is better for you however it does not have much of a reputation for being a quiet village, in fact the reverse is true. Good Luck.

Nowhere is due to there being no deterrent.

They know their "rights" you know.

You gotta larf..... mmm...moving to Theale..... oooh, I'm so jealous.... About the time of year for The Travellers returned to Theale isn't it??!
blink.gif

Living in a town centre, city centre or even a village centre has it roughs and it's smooths and no doubt you've benefitted from having a number of facilities on your doorstep for a few years, so stop moaning and blaming everyone else for a decision YOU made a few years back......

Just think how much money you've saved over the last five years or so compared to the likes of us out in the wild wooly parts of Thatcham who shell out a fortune for taxi rides to Newbury when we want a night out

(arguing, fighting, shouting, being sick, urinating, faunicating down the alley at stupid o'clock in the morning is optional ...before jumping in a taxi and winding our weary way back from whence we came)

I'll bring two to three hundred people outside your property at 3am to optionally choose to do many of these things with care and consideration to your well-being then. Let's see if you'd complain!

I never choose to live there, It was all that was available to me within my budget means at the time.

As for having to pay for a taxi to frequent Newbury, I pay for a blo*dy taxi to socialise elsewhere!

Thanks for comments everybody.

I do realise that Theale has not got the best reputation, however where I am going is a quieter area of Theale (and anywhere is quieter that Newbury Town Centre)
I will be able to park my car outside my own property rather that a 1/4 of a mile from where I live with fear of vandalizm from idiots with nothing better to do with their time at four in the morning (or because they may be drunk and think that it may be a good idea to key all the cars in that road)
After weighing everything up I realise that I could be jumping into a hornets nest, but I am prepared to take my chances.

How do we do something about this?

The only way I can see is to vote in a political party who promises they will do something about it.

The only problem then is that you are branded a "right wing extremest"

It is likely because the party I believe you are referring to, are.

So what's the answer then?

Surely any effective way of dealing with the problems listed by TDH has to have a "right wing" approach?

The "softly softly" method hasn't worked has it?

Possibly, but just be careful that you don't have any lifestyles that contradict the principles of a hard left, or right-wing party.

Hi everybody,

Well I made it to Theale about 2 weeks ago and would like to say that it is now pleasurable to live there.
Unfortuantly Mrs MAC is spending all my pennies on new furniture, decorating, laminated floors, and carpets.

My thanks to everyone that expressed an interest on my move, and I would like to say that I think that the wife and me will be very happy here.
