Carrying on from the topic about rules, I thought it would be nice to have more sections, to get a real interest created. Not just on Newbury, even though it is important to Newbury Today, but see what the people think of things outside West Berkshire.

What are other members thoughts on this?

I see no harm, but for it to be work able, it would take moderating and I don't believe NWN are interested in doing that. On the flip side, I have used fora that in my view have too many categories. While we have a modest usership I don't really see the benefit of many categories.

I agree in part of what you say. But a lot of forums, from my experience, have trivial sections. If we stuck to serious topics it might force those that come on here to stick to that.

This forum isn't moderated and I don't think a more serious sectioned forum would need that much or any.

That's just it: unless we have a moderator, you cannot enforce anything.

For the number of contributors I think two areas is sufficient. 'Newbury' is the obvious area for anything related to Newbury or the surrounding area (heck you could even be daring and discuss topics about Thatcham seeing as the towns are almost merging into one). The 'Random Rants' sections could be re-titled 'AOB' or just remove the 'rants' reference. It's hardly the most frantic of discussion boards to keep a track on....

I like the idea of new sections. A bit like redecorating the house and this forum needs an uplift.

Howdy people,
I think I would come on here more often if there was serious debates, instead of this name calling all the time.

Don

Not being much of a name-caller, and enjoying as I do a serious debate, I'd welcome informed debate on a broader range of topics. I'm not sure we need more categories though, and I agree that it would be a little less demeaning if the "rants" was dropped, giving us "Newbury" and "Random".

It might possibly attract more members if there was a "Nice 'n Easy" section for light chit-chat as I think that has its place and would set a more robust expectation in the other sections.

Surely 'Newbury' is part of the problem, very off-putting to out of towners. It's an NWN forum not a Newbury forum. I'd change it to District News and encourage more posts from Thatcham, Hungerford etc.

That was a surprise Spartacus. I don't post much until the thread has died and then I waffle a bit rolleyes.gif I settled in central London in 1972.Toured with theatre companies all over the UK and even Scotland.

I have done a few visits for Simon's Newts. I have my own strange politics here.In Islington
Emily "white van" Thornbury is my MP. Corbyn is up the other end (so to speak).
I only post when it is simple.
