https://www..co.uk/news/home/23311/newbury-...t-capacity.html

I read this story and felt sad that there is still a problem with this somewhere as affluent as Newbury, and I still do think it's sad. However I also read about all the local businesses and people donating their good services and time to help out. So whilst the story has a bad side, it's noce to know that there are still people in the world who haven't given up and are still trying to make a difference and succeeding.

Just Curious though...

Is it a paid position? Is it a full time role or one that sits alongside another? How much time does anofficer need to dedicate to this? The forum is getting upset but there is no detail to this at all. Other than that it is an internal only post.

Just to add in, he put his hands up after he had been tried and convicted. He was rather weasly with his excuses before then.

I use metric all the time even started doing binary and everything, laugh.gif Yes I think a working knowledge of the old units should be taught, its part of our history.

Should we all be speaking Latin as well then? Or Aramaic? Should we teach glassblowing in schools? Fox hunting is part of our history should we bring that back? Cannibalism Maybe?

There's always the jealous neighbour somewhere, 'oh he's got a better car, who does he think he is' type. Way of life for some people, same as the little sod who keyed my range rover the other week, always one.

When you go round upsetting people, they do things that are silly but they find themselves able to justify their actions. I wouldn't condone it but I won't be losing any sleep either.

It's interesting to note that the proposed extension appears to be considered more anti-social than than driving in an inebriated condition....

It isn't but because it's in the daily mail they will focus on the condemning someone for daring to question someone with money.

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Dec 20 2017, 04:45 PM) *
The over sixties have paid their due sonny, in coin and in blood, all this agism about they don't understand this, and they don't like iPads! I mean, WTF are you on? You've screams about people who who don't pay enough tax bit idolise some of the worst offenders, Amazon, Apple, Starbucks! Workers rights huh? What about the rights of the workers who put those iPads together? In conditions so bad some of the factories have netting round them to catch the jumpers? Just remember that all these bright young things will be over sixty one day, then what? You really are a snide individual aren't you. Part of the "where's my share" whiney generation.

Please stop attributing things to me that aren't true. I don't idolise some of the worst offenders. I don't idolise any big business really. Going back to your previous post, imperial measurements were outlawed as a unit of sale years ago, but metric came about in the seventies - 40 years ago. That's where my issue is, yet you think I should still be able to use the old ways rather than you dinosaurs moving with the times. I feel the same about people who refuse to learn computers and yes ipads too.

You can't say the over sixties have all paid their dues anymore than you can say all youngsters haven't got a clue. You're just a bitter and twisted old man angry at the world because its changed and you haven't. Some of the posters on here have given a sensible and reasoned response to my original post and for that I thank them. Biker1, X2, andy capp and the others. Your response sums up everything that is wrong with your generation, but I do accept following this discussion that you are but 1 man, and even though you want to, do not speak for your entire age group. Some of them are alright.

I don't agree at all that because someone has called you a loon that another forum member should be allowed to use language that is derived from the word ******. Its classic two wrongs dont make a right territory!

Regarding the over 60s, most of them are retiring or due to retire and have a limited shelf life. If we are going to complain that the young shouldn't get a vote or the left is comprised of only students wanting free stuff then I think it should go both ways. But the current generation of sixty plussers, in my experience are gripping on to nostalgia and a time that they are used to. I work in catering and currently in have to allow people to work in pounds and ounces because some simply refuse to learn the metric system. A huge percentage of them can't use i pads and they just haven't moved with the times. I know there are some forward thinkers out there and i am generalising but so was Charlie when he made his claims.

Where did I say swivel eyed loon was acceptable? But I probaably would argue that it is more acceptable if my defence and usual response was to resort to name calling. But it isn't...tempting though it is.

Lots of followers and 250 million youtube views.

Dont here about him on mainstream media... Wonder why?

Oh yes.. He is a "racist" "islamophobic" gay man. Does not compute. Does not compute. Error. Error.

You do hear about him in mainstream media. But he flip flops on his ideals, his evidence is usually flawed and he is often wrong. He fails to offer any real evidence for most of his theories and is widely discrsdited. There are plenty more like him and whilst he is popular with a certain type of people, he's not really a big fish in the grand scheme of things.

Andy Capp, no regrets it was a differentbparty then, but I certainly question what I was thinking back then! It does help me to understand though how any party machine can suck people in.

Je Suis Charlie - great response. I disagree so you launch a personal attack, fail to address any points whatsoever and you use language like "libtard". You are irrelevant and you are exactly the demographic of people ruining this country. When people don't feel they have a voice that's when extremes happen. That's why we have trump, and it's why we will end up with Corbyn

X2 - fair points but I bet you have had help, child benefit for example? You've also had the benefit of a free NHS and free education and economic policies that allowed you to buy a house. I'm obviously not going to tar absolutely everyone withbthe same brush I'm being generic but on this forum now there's a few elderly white men who think that other people gaining anything in life is somehow detrimental to them. They need questioning from time to time. I appreciate your reasoned response.

There was a phone in on LBC about these as they are making toddler and child versions. Some argued that by using them paedophiles urges were diminished or satisfied. Others claimed that it would help to confirm their urges and perhaps encourage them to take the next step. Personally I'm not sure about any of it but if we are making robots with that much talent surely we can come up with something more useful?

Do you not think you guys and your generation milked the system enough? All the stuff you've had handed to you on a plate and you're all still happy for the Tories and the well off to milk the system, but the future generation and the current workforce aren't allowed a fair deal? I just don't get it? You got bailed out for toxic mortgages, endowments and bad pension schemes. You all had access to free education and healthcare, and you could get a mortgage and buy a house on a normal wage.

You're all happy with the bribes for votes situation when you're getting free stuff. You all seem happy for the NHS to be stripped and dismantled, you're happy for the forces and public services to be cut back more and more, but don't say a word when mps get a massive rise? Or the queen gets millions to sort her house out, whilst making sure she isn't paying tax? Same with Branson he's pro Brexit so his behaviour is fine. Doesn't pay tax, sues the NHS and hes a hero. Someone struggling to feed their family and can't afford heating buys a packet of fags and you all lose your minds. Instead of allowing 16 year olds to vote we should stop the over 60s because most of them don't contribute, there futures are limited and they're not relevant in today's society!

If you want the NWN to pay somone to oversee this "chatroom" they may have to sell pictures of kids at Christmas and letters to Santa space in their main publication to pay for it.

Failing that just inform them that the family has changed it's religious leanings . I understand islam is quite popular at the moment and you get to carry a carpet round with you .

They will probably ask what religion has to do with it.

What? Tory? Yup! Right on! Not just the Tories though, was it.

Yes It was. Tories, DUP (outsourced tories) and 2 independents. The independents were elected as Tories but are currently suspended from the party.
