Sainsbury's planned to slap a £50 parking fine on drivers for abusing their parking spaces; i.e. parking in disabled places.

Uniformed wardens will be fixing their eyes on you and if one wrong move they will have you over a barrel and banged to rights.

About time too. It's not as if the disabled spaces aren't clearly marked.

Parking in the disabled bay is one thing, but parking in the 'parent and child' parking is another. You could have some sport with this if you were that way inclined... (I'm tempted laugh.gif )

When is a 'child' not a child? When it becomes a teenager at 13? What about 16? If I popped into Sainsburys with my child of 22 years of age, in law he's still my child. Interesting to see how robust the restriction is and if it would stand someone refusing to pay up and taking it to court!

(I'm tempted, but not THAT tempted..... wink.gif )

While we're on the subject... just HOW MANY disabled drivers ARE there in Newbury??! blink.gif Tescos car park seems to have 100s set aside for their use... I'd understand if this was Bournemouth, or somewhere where the elderly and infirm go to see out the last of their days before falling off the twig, but this is leafy Berkshire! It's ridiculous...!

You could try it with a 22 year old, but you'd probably have to put him/her in a buggy and then you'd probably get away with it!!! laugh.gif

Totally agree spartacus. It is very frustrating when a car park is rammed and spaces are at a premium and then you drive past the disabled section and there are loads of spaces that are all empty. Probably a government requirement to have a certain number of spaces I would imagine.

Before you leave. Think of the benefits - park where you want, have a nice scooter to wizz around in. I can't see why more people are not doing it.

I can't believe people are moaning about having to drive past empty disabled spaces. Think of what it might be like if you were entitled to use one................

Very profound indeed, Dannyboy. I won't be moaning about them getting all the best spaces again. Those that are entitled to use them, that is

I cannot disagree with the idea of protecting these reserved spaces

BUT

This seems like one more group of people (Sainsbury car park staff) who are allowed tio issue "on the spot fines" to members of the public. First it was traffic wardens and the part time constabulary (who seem to have taken over from the real police) then the other day it was announced that bouncers at clubs and pubs would in future be able to issue on the spot fines.

I even saw a suggestion that teachers should be able to fine parents if their kids misbehave.

Oh - by the way, when a Sainsbury warden imposes a fine who gets to keep the £50?

I agree and think the reason people park in these spaces because the car park is full and those spaces are normally empty as are mother and child spaces.
You will get the odd bone idol idiot that will park there i dont know if the is a dedicated amount of disabled parking spaces that has to set aside when building these car parks?

Oh I took a much more drastic route than that, went and had children, now I can park in the parent spaces. Wish i'd gone for the sawing off leg option now........where were the warnings!!!!!!

Probably Euro car parks as they manage the car park on Sainsbury's behalf.

If you'd read the full story you'd have seen this:
