Have other readers in Newbury received correspondence/calls/callers asking for their votes in Newbury for the PCC elections this week? Other than a booklet explaining how to vote and the WBC election notice I have received no direct contact. Perhaps it is assumed I will go looking for the candidates instead of the other way around..or I am expected to look "on line"

I think the Tory's know they are on a loser with this one so are keeping it very quiet. Just let the party faithful vote and hey presto we have some new Tory Commissioners that will follow the party line. It will also give some of the old boys who have been faithful to the party a job to go to and it will bung them £80000 - £100000 a year as a reward for doing the right thing! rolleyes.gif

You need to get out more. It is the standard for politics anywhere.

You need to take the WBC blinkers off. This is a Newbury forum as you have pointed out many times now. wink.gif

Sorry - I don't think I have ever pointed out this is a 'Newbury' forum.

And, why would I need to take off the blinkers - I told you that you need to look at the bigger, non WBC picture.

Do get a grip.

So we look at the non WBC picture when it suits you but not at other times? "Rules of Dannyboy" Eh?

I will give this the Dannyboy response - "Yawn" rolleyes.gif

Which brief interlude does not advance the discussion re Police Commissioners. What about the deputy PC, appointed by the PC without any consultation? What about the Police Panel, again unelected....?

A pile of pants if ever there was one, and I do not remember any groundswell of public opinion that the policing of the country would be best developed by having such a structure......

There certainly does not seem to be much enthusiasm for voting, but that does not stop the snowball trundling downhill

But it probably ensures that the police will carry out their duties more in line with what the politicians require.

Still it gives the party faithful a chance for a good little earner! rolleyes.gif

What irritates me about this whole election is that the position, as per the NWN article, is supposed to be non political. I saw a postal ballot form today. All the candidates are listed by name with their political party clearly entered under their name. So, if that's not political, what is?

The most likely person for Thames Valley, according to his experience, appears to be the labour candidate. Whoa West Berks. Alarm Alarm!!!

Former TVP Chief Constable Peter Neyroud has pointed out that Cllr Stansfield is telling porkies in his election leaflet when he claims to have introduced Neighbourhood Policing to TVP. He states that this was a Labour policy, which the Conservatives were against, and was introduced before Cllr Stansfield was even on the Police Authority.
