Sorry, goes against all my 'swivel eyed loon' sympathies, but, sorry to see him go. yes. yes. I know. but, free health care? good education? old cold war warrior finally meets his maker, I for one mourn him. RIP.

I dont. Nearly blew up the world via the Cuban missile crisis. And thought that electric shock rherapy was a good way of converting gay people to straight. If he was so great why did half of Cuba end up in Miami??

I can understand that. Cuba would make for a very interesting disinterested study; which isn't likely to happen anytime soon. We already know that the missile crisis wasn't exactly as reported in the West and as for discrimination against gay people, our own record isn't good. After all, we used chemicals to do the same thing, ironically at the time of the crisis. As for the 'refugees'; well, where there is an economic imbalance, these things happen. It culminated in Cubans being let leave if they wanted. A high proportion of deviants and delinquents went with them; much to the chagrin of the receiving nation. Sounds pretty familiar doesn't it! Sure, he was no saint, but he was certainly no monster.

I thought it was Kennedy threatening to blow up the world? Bearing in mind The Bay of Pigs, one can hardly blame Cuba for feeling vulnerable to a US attack. No idea about EST - I'm sure you're right.

He was an absolute monster in the imprisoning, torturing and killing of his own people if they 'dissented'. His legacy is a country where £15/month is a good wage. Still, at least there is little obesity...

His regime continues via his brother.

We laugh/fear at North Korea, but Cuba is little different

I've had two sets of friends go there for a holiday in the last couple of years and a friend who lives in Florida go for the Stones concert. I think you're talking nonsense.

However, I don't feel that your thought is sufficient to rebuff the fact that Castro was a monster.

My comment of comparison was with regard to having total loyalty to the Great Leader rather than the existence of a tourist industry

Presumably it's OK to do that if you are American and its other people? £15 may well be a good wage and probably substantially better than that earned by the people who make most of our clothes these days.

Well they said little difference, but I would imagine they were comparing régimes, but even then I don't think it is a N Korea. Maybe it was once?

And why do we still get muppets wearing images of the terrorist Guevara?

If in thirty years time, we get muppets wandering about in Bin Laden t-shirts, I reserve the right to despatch them on the spot on the justifiable grounds of historical ignorance.
